Only better deal to be made I know was the one just mentioned that Griff turned down before Kyrie asked to be moved. Haven't even heard of a fake trade they could have made after he demanded a trade that they turned down.

as for flipping the first rounder? I recall a rumor of moving it in a deal for Jordan. Didn't like the idea then and looks even worse now.

I can understand why they did what they did with Love. Need a reason for fans to still come and he was coming off a few solid seasons. was pretty good last year, too. I don't think anyone thought he'd drop off like he did this year....but I'm glad he did (hope his one really good game doesn't ruin their pick).

I think the big mistake was IT for Kyrie. And sure they got a decent haul but they didn't get a star anywhere near Kyrie. Yes in terms of who won between them or Boston was probably them but that's truly a trade no one won.

Not sure it was already posted / discussed but...

Magic Johnson isn’t sold on Schroder.....

Interesting.

Magic hasn't been proven to be a good judge of modern players or shown an ability to understand the cap. When it's either Schroder or a league minimum player, that evaluation of his likely shifts.

Enough of dirtying up the thread with Cavs discussions. This is a Lakers offseason thread, and the Cavs are unlikely to have anything to do with that.

right- Jordan was the one they could have done

there were rumors about possibly trading it for Kemba- but the Hornets ultimately decided against it- which is just so stupid since they let him leavei n free agency- but hey- it is the hornets.

The centerpiece of that deal was the pick. At the time of the deal most thought it was a top 3 pick. Obviously you know the pick turned into the 8 pick and sexton who in year 3 as a Cavalier was arguably better than Kyrie. Can he get to the peak Kyrie reached? Not sure, but seeing him get better every year (and also doesn't get hurt as much) no reason to think he can't.

I do recall a rumor for walker and suspect you are right that it involved the pick (and taking on some of their bad contracts and maybe Batum?). Kind of liked it at the time, but in hindsight so glad it wasn't made no matter who pulled out if true. Still would not win a title and no way Kemba is the piece that convinces Lebron to stay (if he'd even be willing to stay). You are right..no clue what Hornets were thinking if they were offered that deal.

I'm not liking Sexton to become much of a defensive player. Perhaps part of his shortcoming is teammates however. He is a very good shooter though. Not as dynamic a playmaker imo.

Because of size I don't see him being much of a defensive player either...like most short guards (even the elite ones). Definitely not a dynamic playmaker, but even as a SG he has improved in that area each season. 4.4 apg not too shabby as a SG. Was getting 6-8 apg when Garland was hurt.

Notion many have he must be moved or must be a 6th man seems off base to me. worse are those who say he's like L. Williams or Clarkson. He's far better than either of them has ever been. Might they deal him or make him a 6th man? sure....depends what happens with the pingpong balls. Find an elite SG he might be dealt or go to bench. OTOH, find a big PG and Garland might.

Still think that meaningless win ends up costing us.

I still think the best comp is probably Kemba Walker.

Obviously a very good player, but you are going to want to partner him with a couple complementary stars who are better than him.

I don’t think he is a 6th man either. I guess he could be on a really stacked team.

Not sure if he's the best comp., but Kemba not a bad one. I offer pushback on KW is he did not hit 20 ppg until his 5th season at age 25. His best shooting season in his career was only 44.4%. Pretty reliable from 3 his last 5 seasons. Not great, but good to really good. Sexton did have a similar or even better year 3 season than Kyrie did here. So far, he's been healthier and also not a whack job.

No disagreement you are not going far if he's your best player.

Which isn't to say he isn't talented, just very tough to lead your team as the best player as a smaller guard. How many have led teams to the finals as such? Iverson and? There is some degree of duplication between him and Garland, with neither really a true point, so the rumors start.

Garland is a true PG.....but, sure, not the best fit with Sexton in the backcourt.

Saw an interesting article re: 3 former Lakers that the Lakers should look into bringing them back. They were Wayne Ellington, Lemon Pepper Lou and Lonzo Ball.

I think Lonzo might be my first choice if it could be done.

the lakers would be hard capped so it would be tough.

probably need to say bye to Harrell, THT and Schroeder for sure. Possibly Caruso as well.

Yeah, I just skimmed the article, so I really don't know how they figure the Lakers would be able to get one of them. I'll have to read it more closely to see. Sometimes these articles have "pie in the sky" type ways it can be done and sometimes there are realistic ways.

I'll be interested to see.

I'll post it here if it seems realistic.

youd probably need to sign and trade Schroeder or tht.

Hollinger wrote that he expects Harrell to opt out, so let’s assume you can’t use him.

Plus the pels have Adam’s and Hayes. They don’t need Harrell.

I don’t know if they want kuz or kcp, they could be in play too for Salary.

Not sure of all of the salary cap ramifications, but here's the article. The trickiest one would be Lonzo because he's an RFA, so it would have to be a sign and trade.
