Yeah unless they have given up on Darnold. He seemed like if he was the guy he would at least show some signs, not seeing any this year. So either take Fields, who isn’t as pro ready as TL and less experience as well, but give him a below average OL to work with in the process. Or give a 4th year guy a pretty solid OL and see what he can do. Jets are going to have another $80M in cap space like JAX but it seems like they do every year. If Fields isn’t NFL ready...pass on him and go with Sewell, a pretty A+ sure pick. Give Darnold one last year, if you suck...pick a QB in 2022
Agree. I don't think I would pick Fields with that #2. I don't know if Darnold will ever get it right but they did use a second overall on him and he is still on the rookie deal. Get the trenches good and maybe they can even trade for someone or sign a FA. I don't know. I'm really trying to see their upside here. Lawrence isn't coming so get thinking about plan b.

I actually think when all is said and done that the BYU QB will go ahead of Fields.

Fields is very similar to the last Ohio State QB to be taken in the 1st round. He is better.....but he is closer to Haskell than he is to Lawrence.

I cant put my finger on it exactly but I just don't love what I have seen from Fields. I understand why people rate him as high as they do. But I don't think I would be the one to pull the trigger on him.
Well if you don’t know Ohio St’s other QB you probably haven’t watched them play enough lol. He has very little experience as Haskins but he is a totally different QB than Haskins so unfair to even compare the two. Fields just needs more experience but he has way more talent and even arm talent than Haskins will EVER have. Haskins should not have been drafted in the 1st round. That was a huge reach, he should have come back for one more year tbh. Would do Fields wonders if he did the same.

The Jets may get him yet as why in the hell would the Jags want some QB that fumbles several times a game and cannot win big games for his team?

The Ohio state guy moved ahead of him

Could it be the Jets got lucky to land in the Justin Fields pick?

I don't think the QB order is set in stone except for Lawrence at 1. I do think that getting this pick wrong would make the Jets the laughing stock of professional sports.

Sign Devonta Smith, keep Darnold. Jets will be dangerous

The Jets have money and draft picks to work with. Need a good GM/ HC combination and need to work with Darnold. He's teachable, imo but he does need some work. The Jets have some pieces, just not enough. A big home run draft like the Saints hit in 2017 and that division becomes very competitive.

I think Lawrence's stock dropped some, for sure. In addition to the fumbles, as @FaCe-LeE-uS pointed out in the game thread, he seemed to be only going with his pre-snap read, then staring the guy down the whole way. OSU def picked up on it. He didn't do well when pressured.

But he'll still go #1.

Fields stock went up. Those deep throws and his mobility reminded me a little bit of Russ Wilson.

Zach Wilson from BYU declared, and is climbing the charts in the mocks.

I kinda go the other way. If you can get a 3 for darnold you can get a decent wr there. Plus your new cheap qb and loads of cap space

I have a question on Lawrence for those of you that seem to study College football players. Not just read on them. (like me)
Lawrence a couple years ago beat the vaunted Alabama team for a championship. Ever since then he was considered the cream of the crop.
My question is. If he doesnt play in that game or lost that game. Would all the SportsHoopla still be talked about him? or would he just be considered a good QB on a top College team? Instead of this cant miss #1 pick generational player.
or do you feel he is a legit generational player?

The guy would be the number 1 pick even if he threw 7 picks. His talent and locker room presence is simply too good.

Hmm I guess @rmilia1 and @ducky forgot about this....

Most of that talent on what made that team a AFC title contender is still there.

Our issues are at QB. Lawerence comes in and then bam. Instantly better
1st off. The only reason that team made the AFC title game was because of their Defense. Their offense sucked.
There Defense right now doesnt even come close to resembling the defense from that year.
So while a top QB will make their team better. It wont make them a playoff team next year.
Like @megalodon30 seems to think.

Mahomes as great as he is wouldnt make a team with exact same personnel a +10 in the win column as he claims.
Mahomes walked into a perfect scenario. Most great QBs has to wait a few years of building to get those results.
Alex Smith the year before mahomes started was an MVP candidate on the Chiefs. No one's gonna claim Alex Smith as an all time great. Mahomes already had a playoff team when he started.

The Jags are a cesspool right now who are about to have some coaching overhaul (or should) acting like all they are missing is a QB is absurd.
