because he has the tenure and respect of NFL decision makers now that he didn't always have with the Panthers. He could have had 2/3 head coaching jobs this year, if Haskins won't put in the work, he'll be cast aside. Signing Allen should leave no doubt in Haskins head that's the way it's going to be. Haskins is a project.
Haskins is more than a project. A QB taken in the 5th round is a project. One taken with a 1st round pick is an investment. One that we need to fully vet before we decide to go in another direction. Having said that, part of a full vet is to see how the player performs in a competitive situation. Make no mistake, Rivera brought Allen in to push Haskins. It is now up to Haskins to rise to the challenge or not. His leash is not long. Rivera has a window as a new coach to jettison any excess baggage the previous regime placed on the team. This includes 1st round QB picks, as evidenced by how Jay was allowed to jettison RG3. And based on Rivera's comments about Haskins, he is certainly reserving that option.

Haskins couldn't even receive a play from the sideline and lineup the offense and execute the play on time, half way through last season, he's the poster boy for a project football player, I don't care where he was drafted, his ability to play is the difference between a investment and a project. So far, he's clearly a project, he only played one year in college.

Well shame on Snyder’s son for the shitty scouting report. Did he get canned with Allen?

you might want to start here, there's others, people in the organization question his commitment, he can change all that with RR there now, we'll see what happens.

What do you think he will get paid?

$20? less?

why would any team pay a damaged Cam Newton that much money?

When was the last time he was top ten in the league?

#1- You stated halfway through the season. The clip you gave clearly stated five games in on October 7.

Calling plays in the huddle is what she actually said- Well, he sure seemed to be doing that in his tenure on the field. He didn’t have any more difficulty than Keenum or McCoy and he was a rookie.

She also mentioned catering the offense to Haskins strength- oh my Gosh...imagine if all teams did that.

DH likes to hold the ball- almost all rookie QBs do.

Struggling reading defenses- like Lamar Jackson last season? I sure hope DH has a second year like that. Holy shit.

Here is what you should be looking at.

Last four games of the season, we averaged 26.5 PPG.

DH last two games, he had a rating of 143.2 and 121.3, with a QBR of 92.2 and 56.4.

He threw one pick over his final four games.

Rivera: Haskins is QB1 in Washington
Dwayne Haskins is the starting quarterback for the Washington Redskins. Head coach Ron Rivera has been hesitant to anoint any player as a starter in his first offseason on the job in D.C. That includes quarterback, where the 2019 first-round pick Haskins was thought to be the leader in the clubhouse after starting seven games last season. When the Redskins traded for Kyle Allen -- sacrificing a fifth-round pick to land a player Rivera coached in Carolina -- and Cam Newton became available, speculation shifted.

from the article;

"We're going into camp believing (Haskins is the starter), but they're going to be competing," Rivera said in an interview with The Team 980. "At the end of the day, nobody knows what's going to happen, so we just have to get ourselves ready.

doesn't sound like a ringing endorsement to me...

Ringing endorsement or not, the fact is, he has two choices, Haskins or Allen.

To be honest , I believe that Rivera has the problem. He didn't select Haskins, he wants to see certain things from Haskins and he has to decide that Haskins is the guy. All of this without ever actually seeing him in camp or up close and personal. Sure he got a chance to see him against his old team, but Washington led by Haskins scored 29 points against his squad in a lopsided 29-26 victory. (Carolina rallied late) Maybe he's still butthurt over losing his job in part because his team lost to that sorrowful D.C. team.

Fact is he needs to get over himself and realize that Haskins isn't the issue, he is, because he has a QB with a potentially great NFL future. Further, he's applying standards on that player that he wouldn't had he been part of the decision making process that drafted him in the first place.

every coach in the free world says he wants competition . he needs to see things from DH and DH needs to produce them

I have yet to hear a coach say that about his newly drafted, or a starter quality QB. Haskins was drafted at 15, not in the second through 7th round. He is essentially a rookie because of what Gruden failed to do with him. The advantage that he brings is a rookie status with NFL experience. Rivera is playing a simple minded word game, which doesn't work on certain people and doing so at his own peril.

There's no way in hell that anyone can convince me that if they trade Haskins and draft Tua or Burrow that he's going to say, "I want competition" for either of them.

Why not? He put up with Cam who seemed to have an exceddingly big head. And unless he just started talking out the side of his neck when the Skins signed him. He put up with Norman as well. So why won't RR put up with Haskins?
Not to mention, he not only put up with Allen; he also traded for Allen. And NOBODY thinks Allen is better than Haskins.

We simply need to find out about Haskins . I believe he will be the answer , some don’t , but he has the tools and appears to be in the right offense

Allen has a tendency to throw into coverage. He has only adequate arm strength.

I'm going to say that thing that's right in front of us but people won't say.
In the year 2020, Dwayne Haskins simply doesn't have the face of the team that an unfortunate part of America is comfortable with. Yeah, I said it!!

•We've seen video of this young man working at the park. There are reports some directly from the head coach telling us that he's there early an working.

•We've all witnessed his progress in the last 4 games last year.

•He's not the heretofore acceptable golden boy. He has tremendous arm and head talent with an upside not seen here in years.

I'm not sure what more can be asked of this young man at this point. He's unable to rid others of their biases. It would not surprise me, if he, not being the perfect QB that some seem to want, end his career wearing some other team's colors.

BTW: if this doesn't apply to you then it doesn't.

All he has to do is perform. That's it. If he does, he will be the face of the franchise, regardless of what he looks like. If he doesn't, he will join that long list of 1st round QB busts.

I don't see what the issue is by Rivera bringing in a second QB that he is comfortable with and knows the basic offense. Rivera has publicly stated that Haskins is entering the season as the starter. What more does Haskins, or anyone else for that matter, want? But if he doesn't perform, does he deserve to stay the starter just because of where he was drafted?

This is the truth and how it should be . That being said I believe Haskins will rise to the top. Doesn’t mean I am right
