Most of this is spot-on, particularly about them rolling in dough. But, there are a select number of owners out there who care more about winning than huge profits. And buying a sports franchise isn’t always the best way to make money. It all depends on the market and the situation. Some teams are cash cows. Others barely operate in the red.

I think what’s got everyone so livid about Simpson and Davis is that they have been lying about their intentions since day 1. They won over the fanbase during the auction process because they positioned themselves as the owners who cared about winning and maintaining a respectable payroll. They conned the Arlington taxpayers into building a billion dollar stadium because it would “help us attract top free agents”. But they’ve done NOTHING but slash payroll and refuse to sign one single top free agent during their time as owners. The one exception was Choo, and that burned them. So the team tells everyone that they’re going to be very active in the top free agent market. They release new uniforms. They promise all kinds of fan fare for the opening season for the new stadium. And then they turn right around and do what they’ve been doing for years- sign bargain basement guys and hope for the best.

People don’t like being lied to. If you’re gonna go bargain basement and operate as a profits machine instead of as a contender, at least be upfront about your intentions like the A’s, Royals, and Rays do.
I honestly am not too worried about it. With greedy asshole owners like we have with the Rangers, their playbook is usually "buy team, build subsidized stadium, sell team, profits".

I expect them to list the team for sale in the next few years.

What did he mean by this?
IMO this front office most likely misread it by being surprised Rendon wasn't looking for a short term make-good contract. :L

Seems bargain bin shopping is all this FO can do, but then also lacks the balls to flip the bargains for prospects like the true low budget teams do. Ever see the A's miss a chance to flip someone they just signed for a few prospects? Nope.

I hope you’re right. Owners looking for a championship. These two aren’t.

Keep hearing Texas will be in on Nolan out of Colorado. YAY! Let's pay the same contract essentially we didn't offer Rendon PLUS prospects

Why would they need to clear someone from the 40 for Gardner who was on their team last year? Did they already fill it as he was a FA to protect for the Rule 5 draft?

They haven't saddled tons of debt on the team, but these two are approaching Tom Hicks levels of hate from me. I mean, at least Hicks went out and spent money trying to build a fun team. These two guys want to sit back and spend as little as they can in order to pocket as much cash as they can.

Maybe Nolan will join some investor company and be a majority owner :)

the difference between Texas and LAA is that Moreno had the balls to make this move and now he will have to add pitching like Bumgarner or Ryu or Keuchel or maybe even 2 of them and he'll do it, and the Texas ownership doesn't have any balls and never actually intended on signing Rendon.
hell, the top move of the off-season for the Rangers is the signing of Gibson followed by the signing of Lyles. that's it

Do you ever read all the posts re: a subject before you start whining?

I'm telling ya sir......According to you this is the worst FO in baseball, and you need to find another team to follow......This ain't the Cowboys or Redskins.......Lighten up or move on.....PLEASE

How so? He signed that naracissitic prick to play SS and did damn near nothing else. Thus, the prick SS said the hell-with-it early on, and we sucked hind tit for years.

That’s what also is extremely frustrating. The last sentence of your post. Simpson and Davis run this team like we’re Tampa bay or Cleveland. The team has the Dallas Cowboys as their freaking neighbors! DFW has plenty of money to support the team.

money shouldn’t be a problem.

You bring up this juggernaut of failure as your point-of-comparison.......I hope Santa brings you a clue for Christmas.

We do have really bad ownership and a very poor GM. Whether they are worse than the Cowboys is up for debate.

You think Jerry is more competent than JD as a GM?

You need to realize, I have a much, much lower opinion of JD than you do. I am not blind to Jerry at all. I am just sick to death of JD and ownership.

Jerry has problems finding a good Head coach. JD found one that was terrible and one that he didn't like long enough to keep very long.

After some awful years Jerry has done a lot better job lately of bringing in talent through the draft. JD has struggled at this, but this one is a difficult one to compare since they are so different.

It is up for debate. JD has struggled mightily at his job over the last few years.

I do expect the Cowboys to advance to the NFC championship game before the Rangers advance to the ALCS. Although, neither may happen in our lifetimes.

Boras said he was looking for 7 years and the Rangers continued to offer him 5. No mistake read
