I’ve been meaning to give Evil a shot. I have watched Prodigal Son and it’s not bad and Sheen is definitely the best person on the show. The other one I watch is Blacklist, which I believe should end this season. I’ll probably watch the final episode of Criminal Minds, even though I stopped watching close to two years ago.
I watched Blacklist for a while but got lost somewhere around season 4. Been a while since I watched it and don't recall at all where I left off lol.

Criminal Minds is a goodie. Love the psychological element of the profiling. Some of the later seasons got real dark.

It did. I'm curious about something. What is your all-time favorite horror movie?
alright, so that might have been one of those cases now that it's streaming somewhere, it's like 1a on the list.

I hate doing favorites. There's so much good stuff out there (and bad, that I enjoy).

so, let's start from the beginning, the first "horror' movie i probably ever watched was Mr. Boogedy, which did give me nightmares as a kid. (it came out in 86 when i was 3, don't know when i first watched it), that said it had a great mix where this made me laugh uncontrollably

but the Mr. Boogedy in general had like this fresh off the boat pilgrim look, when brought back was also like aged as hell, so he was terrifying from that aspect for me, the movie overall was also humorous thanks to the dad in that video above (who was also grownup Stan in the original It made for TV movie).

From there the made for TV movie It was possibly the second horror production I recall from my youth (would have been around 6 then, completely scared the shit out of me and will forever be afraid of clowns). This is why I was so hard on It Chapter I, as that really was my first taste (I had areas around me that looked like the barrens and at times imagined that piece of shit pennywise was around (Tim Curry crushed it as always). Which is probably why I liked chapter II so much, as that was the weak part in the TV movie. In this one, it all came around so much better.

Okay, so again, I hate favorites. I know I can be a hater or just give nonplussed reviews a lot. So I'll go with two unexpected movies that stuck out there for me.

Fear.com. i've only seen it once, but it was at one of those times where i was just in the right mood, it was probably 2 in the morning and it really fucked with me.

the skeleton key. things that deal with the occult tend to resonate with me more. kate hudson was great as was peter sarsgaard. movie had a great essence throughout, but that ending... being able to see the loss of your life/future/etc and only being able to lay there and watch it happen.

sorry, i'm just not good at doing favorites, hope that provided some sense of where i'm coming from.

This is actually fantastic info! I've always found your point of view as unique, and honestly sometimes perplexing lol. Nothing at all wrong with that as that's what makes this genre & this thread specifically so interesting. I find all the differing viewpoints & reasoning in here fascinating.

Skeleton Key was a fantastic movie. Been so long since I've seen it that I gotta go back and relive it. Don't recall Fear.com off the top of my head, but the trailer looks very familiar. Almost positive that I've seen it.

Heard great things about Haunting of Hill House. A lot of ratings lists have it as the best out right now. Thinking I may have to jump into that.

Anyone watch any of these:
Hannibal
Bates Motel
Strain
- Decent enough show until dumbness.
Alfred Hitchcock Presents
Channel Zero
- Series is all miss and no hit.
Twin Peaks - Who the fuck hasn't seen Twin Peaks?
Scream (TV series) - Aimed towards teens. If I recall correctly, the final season they did (third) was not related to the first two and was pretty entertaining overall (not to say the first two werent, but it is what it is) Could probably throw scream queens in with this combined with AHS and Ryan Murphy.
Masters of Horror
NOS4A2
no clue what this is, but guess i'll have to check it out.
Hemlock Grove - meh, good enough, never really horror, just a horror themed soap opera.
Z Nation - i was down with it for the first two seasons, but then it just kept going too dumb for me. if you like dumb stuff, go with it.
The Purge (TV series) - like what they did with the first season. know clue what the second season is supposed to be, still see the entire concept as a bust, but they make it work from time to time for 90 minutes, alright.
Two Sentence Horror Stories

I believe I have heard a few of these mentioned in this thread. Just don't remember who.

To me, Criminal Minds started going downhill when Thomas Gibson got fired. There were still some good episodes but they were becoming more sporadic in my opinion.

i took the day off and have been drinking for a few hours, so i might be a bit more loquacious than usual, though i don't think i ever hold back in this thread, it's just i've probably watched like a dozen movies, but don't feel there worthy of anyone's attention.

I did watch Haunt, that someone brought up a few days ago, wouldn't have been aware of it if they didn't bring it up. that said, it was the same as any of a half dozen movies i watched in the past year. yes, this was written and directed from the writers of a quiet place, so it gains some cache there. but hell, i don't know what platform it was on (okay, I searched and it's SportsHoopla, which you can watch 5 movies a month on if you have a cool library) and I watched Clown (the day before October) and it wasn't the interesting Clown movie from 2014, which was pretty fucked up, this just devolved into a half a dozen other movies i watched in the past year that just ends up with a group of teenish people in a haunted house or similar going through the motions.

i'm glad you both appreciated my candor. again, i've been drinking for a few hours. you two have been the staple of this thread i only joined here a few years ago, but the horror genre gets overlooked so often.

that said, yes, i will call out shit for being shit. with that said i'll give my october rundown (and maybe a day or two prior to)

Nadja - 1994: said it was presented by David Lynch, which made sense from the standpoint it was horrible and made no sense (but it was shot in black and white, so you know it was classy, or that the filmmakers had now money and this was the best they could do.

Haunt - one of you cats asked about it, put it on my radar, it was what you would have expected out of it. maybe less. this was made by the cats that wrote a quiet place, so you would expect it to be a bit better, but it flows down the same river of the dozens of horror movies set in a "haunt" / escape room, etc...

Calvaire - The Ordeal - Gets a bit weird if that's your thing.

meh, just a junk of trash after that.

This is definitely a forum here I need to frequent more often. My list of horror movies I haven’t seen on Amazon or Netflix is short. About all I have left are C movies and the like. Definitely looking for recommendations I can search on both to watch.

I’ve seen some real winners. Sometimes I just hit a movie I think looks good then watch “what other viewers are watching”. Sometimes it works, sometimes I’m only watching about 20 minutes.

Bates Motel is a good watch, some dull parts here and there but overall pretty good.
Scream the TV series was really good, as long as you don't mind the high school aspect of it. The 3rd season has actually brought back the original Scream mask as the first two seasons used a different mask.
Hemlock Grove has me for 1 season but I couldn't get through the rest of the show, to be honest. Very dull 2nd season.

Got a request for anyone that wants to answer...

Give me your top 5 horror TV shows.
This can be all-time or just current favorites. Or hell, if you're bored enough give me a top 10 (or however many) to encompass both. Or if you're lazy just give me some good recommendations!

I need to get into more horror TV shows. Seriously lacking in that department. I'm looking for great TV shows with an emphasis on horror.

Shows I have watched:
The Twilight Zone
The X-Files
Tales From the Crypt
Penny Dreadful
American Horror Story (not this newest one yet)
The Walking Dead
Stranger Things
Supernatural (didn't watch the last 3-4 seasons, because honestly I'm not sure why I made it that far... Tailored to teenaged girls lol. First couple seasons were better for horror, but now its just a sci-fantasy drama).
Ash vs Evil Dead

My wife & I just finished Black Summer, and honestly I thought it was garbage. She liked it. Not a bad story, just not a fan of the characters or acting at all. And the Tarantino-esque production gets tiresome quickly.

Still need to get into NOS4A2. Also heard good things about Hannibal & Bates Motel. Haven't taken the plunge yet.

Idk. To be honest, I am not a big TV show guy. I have watched all of Stranger Things, The Walking Dead, and X-Files from the list provided. I watched Tales from the Crypt, Goosebumps (lol as a kid), some Twilight Zone and Creep Show (I think that was a series... or a weird multi-storied movie, I don't remember).

X-Files was probably my favorite of all the ones mentioned, granted the last few seasons were big let downs. But I will say that Robert Patrick was better than I initially thought.

I wouldn't classify this as horror pre se, but Mindhunter on Netflix is an excellent show in my opinion and very strange and creepy in certain moments.

I also watched Haunted on Netflix, it was a mini docu-series about peoples supernatural encounters (re-enacted). I honestly found it semi-entertaining as I was laughing a lot.

Been contemplating the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix, but idk. Haven't heard great things and I have a bunch of people asking me to watch Game of Thrones.... yes, I am one of those people that has not watched GoT yet lol.

Yes.

Honestly, do both.
I watched an episode of hill house a while back and kept staring at the background for ghosts instead of really paying attention to the show because of what I'd heard.
