I would say we need to be around 5th or 6th in payroll because of lack of young pitching talent and the fact players don't see Seattle as a competitive MLB team so overpay will have to happen. With that said, I don't think we should ever give out Cano type deals again. Spread the money around and focus on pitching. I would love Cole and Wheeler next year added and then take a chance on a guy like Ozuna who doesn't play a position of need but might be worth it. I really believe if they want to contend in 2012 signing real talent starts in 2020.

I agree with your general premise.

We've talked about this before and we might disagree, but I think ownership is willing to spend around #5 or #6. If I was the owner of the Mariners I'd recognize that the franchise value has appreciated substantially despite being the joke of the majors.

If this team were worth watching, they would make so much money. Everyone I know loves going to Mariners games, even if they can't name a player on the team, hasn't watched a second of the team on TV or finds baseball boring. There is SO much money to be made if they build a winning team.

Don't worry McNabb, we all know that they limit the amount of time you're allowed online at the senior care facility.

Sorry I can't help myself.

One of those drunkin staggering nights you come out of the Safe, I'm going to put you in an Uber with a bunch of trannies and tell them you love to bottom!

And this is why they won't spend top 5 money. The appreciation happens regardless because of baseballs success more than the Mariners success...actually happens despite it.

Like that would be the first time that happened to him. :)

I think we still differ a little bit. Now that he is still here and was allowed to rebuild he shouldn't be fired. I was mainly saying you dont fire him after this year or during next year. I however do think there was an argument to fire him after last year if they hadnt already extended him. But whats done is done and we move forward.

I think this is where there is a disconnect. I don’t know if anyone who thinks he should be fired, in fact it would be near criminal and suicide for the FO if they don’t let him see this rebuild through. Finding a good GM who would take the Mariners job has been hard enough for the franchise, no way could they ever find one if they let a guy rebuild it just to can him before his top prospects had enough sink or swim opportunities in the big leagues.

Okay here is what 2021 could look like without additions ( LookOutLanding)

C: Omar Narváez
1B: Evan White
2B: Shed Long
3B: let’s come back to this shall we
SS: J.P. Crawford
OF: Jake Fraley, Mallex Smith, Mitch Haniger
DH: Daniel Vogelbach
Bench: C Cal Raleigh, OF Kyle Lewis, OF Braden Bishop and/or Dom Thompson-Williams, INF Dylan Moore and/or Donnie Walton

SP: Marco Gonzales, Yusei Kikuchi, Justus Sheffield, Justin Dunn, Logan Gilbert
RP: Joey Gerber, Art Warren, Wyatt Mills, Matt Festa, Erik Swanson, Taylor Guilbeau, Sam Delaplane, Aaron Fletcher

Doesn’t fit in their plan but damn it would be nice had they righted Jack Z’s wrong by getting Rendon to play 3B.

exactly this is the most bottom line perfectly said thing. I see it more on my twitter page but there are people that believe Jerry should be fired and maybe these are the same people that do not see past the MLB team and have no clue whats going on the in minor leagues. But you nailed it we have to let Jerry see this rebuild through it would be criminal to fire a GM before any of his prospects make it to the majors

M's fans shouldn't be too upset because we're playing Detroit which is at the bottom (30th place) of all MLB teams.....and there are 4 teams in worse shape than the M's who are in 26th place where we have been for most of the 2019 season. Just saying things could be worse I guess. :D

Actually I would rather be last. If history shows us anything, we draft pretty well with the first overall pick but not so well with a #2-10 pick.

Well after seeing Mikey Z back in town this weekend I really hope they let this farm system develop and not rush these younger guys through to please fans for 2021

I give you Ed Wade. Twice he has built up the farm system in Philly and Houston and never got to see them through. The FO moved on with a better quality GM to bring these guys up and add pieces when needed. Dipoto is in the same boat but maybe he'll get the chance to see it through if progress is being made.

The Mariners have always had an issue of getting quality General Managers. The only one with any credibility was Pat Gillick. Since then they have hired 2 dudes no team wanted and Jerry was a guy who just got fired and has nothing on his resume to say he deserves a quality GM job...which unfortunately the Mariners GM job is not a high quality job at the moment.

So maybe there are examples of other franchises but, to me, it would be a death nail if the franchise were to let him go now when they already haven’t had a decent candidate apply since Pat Gillick left.

Personally I wish they would’ve fired him the day after the season ended last year. He was given the extension just like Jack Z did so he wasn’t a lame duck GM at the deadline. I think this is where most of the people venting online are coming from but that is just my opinion. But the FO decided to let him do a rebuild and they let the cat out of the bag on it. I don’t feel they can let him go before this contract is up or they will continue on this route where they’ll never get an up and coming GM, just dudes no other organization wants.
