LMFAO ERRRRRRRRRBODY hates the Lakers...

I wouldn't call it hate. But then again I can only speak for myself. Don't hate the Purple 'n Gold. But being a Celtics fan I can't say I like them.

Although I'm enjoying the current dysfunction that is the Lakers. No wonder Magic got the hell outta there.:heh:

What you (obviously) don't understand, is that I WANT HIM OUT... (because he has already declared that my team is among his preferred destinations)... But I'm delusional against the facts as the rest of you guys insist to be... After all... if he would opt out now, his primary destination (as with every other player) would be the Bucks as to win a title!

I guess this should read:

it is a fact that he can return to college if he wants to and there is nothing the NBA can do about it. he can undeclare for the draft if he wants

Well thank you Capt. Obvious.:D Understand how things work, just don't like that a potential pick has the power to say who he wants to play for. I wonder if the Knicks would have won the lottery would there be any talk of him returning to dook? My guess is no.

Yeah, if this is true and Benson sticks to her guns, it says a lot about why the Pels are unlikely to ever win a title.

The author is correct that if the Pels are really this dug in, it's a mistake.

Griffin knows what he's doing and I do find it a little hard to believe that he would have taken the job if he wasn't going to be allowed to what is best for the team, even if it means dealing with a team they'd rather not deal with.

Even if it turns out that the best offer doesn't come from the Lakers, it's hard to win a title with that kind of "cut off your nose to spite your face" pettiness.

The article does make a good point though (and I have wondered if this could be a factor) about the kind of power players have in the NBA vs. the NFL.

Players have far more power to determine their own fate in the NBA than in the NFL, in large part because adding 1 player can completely change a franchise. In the NFL, one player can make a franchise better, but not nearly to the level that an NBA player can.

Since the Pels ownership experience is mainly in the NFL, they may be having some trouble adjusting to the kind of power that NBA players have and realizing that in the NBA, sometimes you have to sleep with the enemy to do what's best for your team.

I mean, the Celtics and Lakers have traded players ffs. lol

Nope... but he might take an expiring bad contract included in a larger deal in order to move him...

Yup. Like a jr smith who is mostly non guaranteed money.

Nfl QBs have the same power.

Hockey goalies probably also could have that power.

All this of course is trolling out of "sites" that are selling fake news to the (mostly Lakers) fans that consume them... Zion will be in the drafts and will be playing for the Pelicans along with AD, Jrue Holiday, Randle and (most probably) a (star) PG out of free agency that makes justice to the rest of the roster...

Speaking of Eli it'll be funny when gets into the HOF. Some people will go crazy. But no QB in league history w/ 100 W's, 50,000+ yards, 350+ TD's, 2 S.B. wins & 2 S.B. MVP's has ever been left out.

Undrafted players shouldn't have the power to do that. What has Zion done in NBA to demand anything? I hope he turns out to be a bust.

I don't know.

On the one hand, I think a player should be happy to just be in the NBA and collecting NBA money.

On the other hand, he's also going to be signing a contract that is likely to lock him in to a place for the next 7-8 years with no real leverage to change it if he's not happy there.

What's wrong with using the leverage he has, while he has it, to try to go someplace that he wants to be?

don't know about "all back". what's the going rate for top rookie contracts these days...?
per the CBA it goes up every year on rookie contracts. if he passes on this season and re-enters next season he would probably make close to 1+M more on his contract

Doubt that... he is "non wanted player", not "bad contract"... rather an "excellent" contract...
