I believe NO! Holiday, Zion and Holiday in one young team? If the Pelicans F.O. works "smart" this season, they'll be after the title at the 2021 playoffs... Bucks vs. Pelicans in the finals of 2021... what a final this would be!
he wants out PERIOD. and Zion is reportedly considering returning to Duke because he doesn't want to play in New Orleans

I mean teams like Indiana (Butler!) aren't gonna get an elite FA. They might want to use their cap space to land one potential top guy that they can't sign.

But they wouldn't have to give up much.
Then it won't be Indy I guess...

No... what it is, is that you want him out PERIOD! (because you think he will then join your team). And then you convince yourself that it's gonna happen! What AD wants is titles!

no I don't want him for my team. he has spent the last few months making it clear he wants out of NO and nothing has changed. yes he wants titles he just doesn't see NO as getting him those titles. live with it

You don't get the point... he is an expert in business (that's why he is a GM) and in business there are risks that have to be taken when crucial decisions arise... Therefore... out of the three possibilities that are he sees as achievable:
1. Keep Davies
2. Trade Davis during the off-season
3. Trade Davis by Feb.

He will risk (2), in order to achieve (1), because by taking 2, he has no hope to get (1)... That's why he is a GM and you are not... cappici?

No, you don't get the point. He will do what is best for the long term health of the franchise, which is his job. After meeting with Davis, if he is unable to get AD to agree to stay, he will look to trade him for as much as possible as soon as possible because that will be when he can get the most for him.

He would want to get it done asap as well so that he can start putting those assets to use. Especially if he intends to use some of them to make other moves.

There is no "significantly less" if you already have a full team but try to keep option (1) above... there is only "much less" than option (1)... cappici?

Yes, there is significantly less. Take the potential Lakers offer for example, as of now the offer that most are speculating about is the #4 pick in this years draft, Brandon Ingram, Kyle Kuzma and 2 future first rounders for AD and Solomon Hill.

If the Pels drag their feet and the Lakers move on and use say the #4 pick, Brandon Ingram and a future first for another player, that now leaves a package of maybe Kyle Kuzma, Lonzo Ball and a future first and if the Lakers manage to sign another top FA, trading AD to them becomes pretty much impossible because of the salary cap.

Same with the Knicks offer and a potential Celtics offer. Teams will only wait so long before they start making other moves.

Sure... you still don't give up in trying to achieve option (1) if you are payed his salary as to win the title over the competition... otherwise they would hire guys like you to be the GMs...

Yes, there is absolutely a point where you give up trying to achieve option 1. That point is when the player has indicated that he isn't interested in staying and potential trade offers are at their highest.

Trying to achieve option 1 for too long risks getting less for him or watching him leave and getting nothing in return which is what happens to teams with GM's that do what you propose.

What you (obviously) don't understand, is that I WANT HIM OUT... (because he has already declared that my team is among his preferred destinations)... But I'm delusional against the facts as the rest of you guys insist to be... After all... if he would opt out now, his primary destination (as with every other player) would be the Bucks as to win a title!

But... THEY DON'T CARE FOR "getting fair value"... They want the title as much as your team wants it and their only chance to achieve their goal soon is to keep AD! Therefore for as long as they judge it is probable (which it is) they'll try what they can! ...capicci?

The fact that they "want the title as much as my team wants it" is why they care about getting fair value for him. They would be incredibly stupid not to.

Unless Griffin somehow convinces AD to stay, their fastest way to a title would be to get as much as they can for him. If they take, for example, the Knicks or Lakers expected offers, they get Zion, the #3 or #4 pick in this years draft, 2 or 3 talented young players and a couple of future firsts that can be used to trade for another young player or even a solid veteran who can help teach/mentor the youngsters. Or they could be kept to add other pieces later.

All of those young players would then be able to develop together and be pretty formidable in 3-4 years. It would be very similar to what OKC did with KD, Westbrook, Harden and Ibaka or what the Warriors did with Steph, Klay and Dray.

Capiche?

I will agree that Danny isn't gonna attach a first rounder or anything to move Hayward.
Nope... but he might take an expiring bad contract included in a larger deal in order to move him...

Undrafted players shouldn't have the power to do that. What has Zion done in NBA to demand anything? I hope he turns out to be a bust.

it is a fact that he can return to college if he wants to and there is nothing the NBA can do about it. he can undeclare for the draft if he wants
