With a Rose Bowl loss, the Jake Browning/Myles Gaskin era is now over. Over that 4 year span the Huskies delivered us a 39-15 record, two PAC-12 championships, 3 consecutive 10 win seasons (first time in program history), three consecutive NYE Bowl appearances, a CFP appearance and dozens of individual achievements.

Time to flip the page and hopefully enjoy even more success from our beloved Huskies.

Go Dawgs!

Should improve in the passing game, but not sure how far they drop off in the run after Gaskin.

The D is shedding some major ballers though.

Yeah we lose a lot of snaps, luckily we have some talented guys coming up.

I think the run game may experience a drop-off, but I don't think it'll be too substantial. Salvon Ahmed IMO is physically more talented than Myles Gaskin, but he hasn't really displayed the ability to be effective between the tackles. Ahmed has incredible straight line speed and can stop and start on a dime, but one of the things that made Gaskin so effective was that despite his size he was incredibly effective between the tackles due to his patience and ability to find the hole. I haven't seen that from Ahmed yet.

The QB situation will probably be more interesting. I think Eason wins the battle, and it'll be interesting to see how well he has progressed. He has the arm strength to throw guys open, but the bigger concern will be if he improves on his accuracy and ability to read defenses.

Yeah, they have talent left at RB, but it's not easy to replace the instincts of a Gaskin. And it's not really something that can be taught. You have that eye and feel or you don't.

Really it's not the offense though. Sure, they have a ton of talent up and coming on D and they rotate so much that most of the guys moving up at least have some game time, but that's a boat load of talent they are replacing.
BBK, Byron Murphy, Rapp, Bartlett, McIntosh, Gaines, Jaylen Johnson. Just to name a few.

In fact, they are replacing all but two starters including the entire front line. Lake and Co have their hands full rebuilding and maintaining that unit at the level we have come to expect.

So, I'm not nearly as worried about the talent on offense as I am defense despite the fact I still don't have a lot of faith in the OC and offensive philosophy and a whole lot more trust in the staff on defense.

Obviously part of it is instinctual, but I do believe that it is a skill that can be worked on and cultivated with more reps/practice etc. One of the things that held Marshawn Lynch back from taking the next-step in Buffalo was that he didn't have much patience or vision as a runner. He took a huge step in Seattle because he was able to improve on that. So it's not unprecedented.

Without getting into the debate about recruiting rankings and yada, yada, yada, the bright side about the turn around is that the guys replacing those graduating/going to the draft were all generally considered more talented at their respective positions. The biggest thing that the defense will be losing is experience.

Hopefully the youngsters step in and make an impact right away. Might be some learning curve though. I'm honestly unsure what to expect from the 2019 team right now.

That to me is the whole thing for Eason starting in my book.
Did he learn anything sitting the QB room and watching film and noticing what opposing teams were doing to the Dawgs.
Plus was there a QB coach pressing him in there , reading and reactions....

For what it's worth, by the start of the 2019 season Eason will have 4 years of practices and off-seasons under his belt and will be 22 years old. If that isn't enough time to iron out those issues, I don't know what would be.

They're obviously just highlights so you can't see when he makes mistakes, but you can see what kind of special arm talent he has.

A few things about Eason.

Was he ideal as a freshman? A few numbers im not crazy about sure, but keep some perspective. It was against SEC defenses so compare his stats to any/ all Pac12 QBs against SEC teams.

As sf said, he has now had a couple years of development without game experience, but he hasn't been away from the game. He worked the scout team this year and was in that film room every week watching and taking notes on everything they were doing.

This isn't the same kid. Unknown how much farther along he is, but if course he has learned more over that span.

Gives him a massive advantage over the others in that room this spring.

We shall see how this whole QB thing plays out!
Of course we are dealing with the poker player in Coach Pete, so if they come out of spring and no starter is named,
I'm thinking its a close race and the final decision wont come until after the 2nd game of the season, Unless of course someone blows everyone out of the water during fall camp

Naw, they will name someone before the first game week. It's not a major game so hiding that won't do anything and the players will know. You need continuity on that unit. Won't be etched in stone and he should have a quick hook, no matter who it is, if they start choking.

Gives him a massive advantage over the others in that room this spring.

When I watched all of his throws from a game or two, the biggest things I noticed were that he has an incredible arm in terms of velocity and ability to throw the ball deep, inconsistencies with accuracy (overthrows) and miscommunications at times (freshman mistakes).

He'll have four years of conditioning and practices along with a year of starting experience against strong SEC defenses.

Normally guys with his natural ability end up leaving early for the draft because NFL teams assume that through development they can work out those issues. Although I've said it about 500 times (and will probably say it about 4,000 more times give or take a couple thousand), he reminds me a lot of what Matt Stafford was like in college. Almost an identical skill set with similar deficiencies.

Hey I got no problem with the kid, Im excited to see what he has learned and can do on the field
I really only know of one fan anywhere that is entirely anti-Eason. Most of us are cautiously optimistic at best. I think the rest of us all want the best candidate to win the job and do well next year, no matter who that ends up being.
