Ok then!

Back to A Quiet Place. Again, a lot to like in this movie. Visually well done. Soundtrack is really, really good. Creatures are awesome (I think they went over the top with the head design towards the end but a small complaint).
As noted, they could have used more backstory, empty city apocalyptic scenes, early creature attacks, etc. but were probably limited by budget and time constraints.
Good movie. Well worth watching! But........
....I had some big problems with story.

Not sure where the creatures came from and they had some impressive strengths (speed, weapons, some armor, etc) but considering their weaknesses I don't see how they wiped everyone out. It obviously didn't happen in a snap because they not only had a newspaper headline of they event, but it stated that they knew that the creatures operated by hearing, and all of the stores are raided empty also.
Considering this information, how in the f did they wipe out everyone out? You know that everyone would be blasting every sound frequency possible to see what effect it had. It should have been concluded how to incapacitate the creatures very quickly. Instead we have to wait a year and a half until they stumble into it while concocting a makeshift hearing aid? Makes no sense.
Add to this that they are supposably armoured but the mom blows off a creature's head with 1 shotgun blast! Doesn't exactly seem invulnerable to me.

So, let's assume that they did manage to destroy everyone despite their juxapostion of strengths and weaknesses. The farmhouse not a good location to begin with and their use of it made even less sense. They managed to soundproof a small area under the house but did it very poorly. They should have done a very large area and made this their main base, and only come up to the rest of the house and area as needed.
Better yet, as previously noted, build a shelter NEAR THE FRICKIN WATERFALL!!
《Problem solved! 》

Still a quite good flick but could have been epic with a bit more budget, time, and addressing these issues.

You seem to have a lot of the same complaints that I did. If you followed Taddy & I's discussion I brought up a lot of the same points.

I definitely agree that a background would have simplified a lot of the questions. And we actually DO NOT know whether the world population has or hasn't been wiped out, more or less. It's easy to make the assumptions, but what if this small town to which they live closely to is one of the few/many that has been wiped out? Or what if that town was simply deserted because people retreated to the farms & hills to avoid noises that towns bring? Any one of these conclusions could be made & justified.

Also we discussed that the only real timeline that we get is from those newspaper articles. To which we can't really make any decisive conclusions.

Considering the creatures weaknesses I would think a lot of people are indeed alive & well but are simply in hiding. Maybe the creatures are constantly reproducing and at insane rates and are simply a pest that we cannot completely eradicate?

Thoughts to ponder.

IMDB has it at a very good 7.8 rating but there are A LOT of user reviews that take great joy in pointing out the flaws. There are more "complaints" that we haven't addressed here, like the fact that the seasonal corn crop is all nicely planted somehow (I don't consider this a spoiler since it has no real bearing on the story).

Lol... Never even considered that. The amount of work it would have taken to plant that shit by hand would have been insane.

sometimes we think too hard about these things... what you forget is that this family conveniently had a Deaf child who saved the day... Which clearly tells me, that they were looking to have that from the start... they writers probably ignored everything, and said how can we make a deaf child the hero... Ok... aliens that are sensitive to sound... how did they conquer the earth?? who cares, we are going to have a deaf child save the day!!!

oh, and lets throw in a some sentiment, where the little brother dies because of her, and now she has a strained relationship with her father...

or how about mars attacks where old 1920's music saved the day!!! I wonder if they tried that in Quiet place... might have worked....

all in all good movie... but lets not try to find holes in a science fiction movie...

Its like how in the movie Signs, WATER saved the day... you know, that thing that occupies most of earth!!! and that was another very good movie!!!

I laughed pretty hard when the Signs twist was revealed!

Lolz... Mars Attacks. Gotta been a while. Need to rewatch that bad boy soon. Honestly still don't know how they pulled off that cast with such a ludicrous concept. So many big name actors/actresses in that film.

but how great would it have been in the Quiet place if they first tried to save the day with 1920's music... every non comedy movie needs to reference a comedy movie in its genre...

Ok, watched Horizon Event from beginning to end today, and totally focused on it.

I know I was down on it, and we had a debate goin' on, so I've gotta say...

...I've changed my mind, at least a little. Pretty entertaining movie, with some pretty damn good effects. I forget what my beef about it was before, but I see it as a combo of Aliens and maybe The Shining?

However, it was well done, well acted, scripted, and everything else. I'm still not exactly sure what transpired at the end, but...it was alright. :)

damn, it's been a while since i've seen Event Horizon, but I recall liking it. i'd probably mix it up with sunshine and pandorum. know i liked them all, but think i saw them all at similar times and they're kind of jumbled together in my mind.

Got some time on my hands and Sunshine had piqued my interest. If you can recall anything about it, I'd be interested in your opinion.

I mean, they both involve space missions, so if you like syfy, that element is involved. Also, some good acting from the casts, props to Murphy in Sunshine, and Foster and Quaid in Pandorum.

I'm bad at reviews here because I really don't want to give anything away with a movie. The only exceptions I like to make is if it's a piece of shit I'm watching on SyFy or similar that is just complete garbage, though enjoyable for what it is.

Which, in your opinion, has the better horror aspect? Not just gore...I just mean horror, if that makes sense.

Also, to my post yesterday, I wouldn't advise watching A Serbian Film (Srpksi Film). I mean you could and it's an experience. You'll probably not feel very well afterwards. If saw is torture ****, Srpski Film was literal torture ****. And I mean really, you don't want to watch it.

One more...which, in your opinion, is the better overall movie?
It's been too long, now that I'm on space exploration, which also entails isolation, I'd possibly go with Moon, which isn't so much the same as the others, but I like me some Sam Rockwell. For the purposes of this thread, I'd go Pandorum.
