Cool beans, thanks; and that was my thoughts on whatever the Serbian film was as well. Seen too much of that trash, so you could say I literally judged a book by it's cover. ;)

I mean, i watched a bunch of shit in my time and will continue to based on certain lists. This one popped up on both Tim Dirks' Most Controversial Films of All-Time and They Shoot Zombies, Don't They ( A list of 1001 horror movies). On the controversial film side, it ranges from the first cinematic kiss which was like a 5 second film in 1898 to other matters at the time which would have been seen as unseemly, to put it nicely, some mild, some wtf, there was one about why you shouldn't have child brides in the 30s or 40s, I feel like the controversial side made have been the against at the time for its intended audience.

that being said, i watched Irreversible (2002) a few years ago and heard how horrible it was, it was a shocking seen, but i was numbed at the time and was able to watch the film for what it was. this film, it's weird, i understand what it was going for, or at least what the film inside the film was going for or wanted to be. fuck, it was a fucked up film. lot of the points on the boob meter for those that are into that, though get your rocks off very early on.

The more I think of it, the more I think we've discussed this as well.

Ah what the hell, I'm gonna watch 'em both! :)

I think we got on the subject when Alien: Covenant came out.

    Agreed.

Watched the other day. Has a few good points and just as many negatives. Had potential to be much better but it would need a complete rewrite.

I watched a movie called Resolution awhile back. A trippy little story about a guy who goes out to a crappy house in the middle of nowhere to force his childhood friend to kick his meth habit by any means necessary. I wont go to details (partially because I am not sure I really understood it!) All kinds of weird stuff happens. They meet strange people. Strange things occur. It reveals as a kind of screwed up mystery.

Fast forward to other day- I watched another odd movie called The Endless in which 2 grown brothers go back to visit the cult that they fled as teenagers. They have struggled out in the world and the younger seems to be considering re-entering but the older bro is opposed. Things slowly go from a bit odd to progressively more screwed up. Again, I won't go into details as I dont want to reveal too much.

Note that I am being intentionally vague as I dont want to reveal anything!

Two friends, Benson and Moorehead, wrote, directed, and filmed these two movies. The also starred in The Endless. They also did a segment in VHS and the movie Spring. Apparently they are up and comers in the bizarre horror genre.

Both Resolution and The Endless were very well received by critics. I liked both but slightly less than the critics. I'll go 6.5 to 7 range on Resolution and 7.5 to 8 on The Endless. Both do well for what they are with lower budget, story driven, fantasy/sci-fi horror. But they are hard to pin down as they are in kind of uncharted territory.

These should be watched together so check them both out back to back if you can. I should go back and rewatch them as it might warrant a second viewing just to clarify.

Good pickups there jakedog! I don't believe I have seen either Resolution or The Endless. Resolution looks familiar, like something I have come across but never got around to watching. But I can attest to their work in VHS & Spring. Kind of a mixed bag in my opinion.

In VHS: Viral, Benson & Moorhead did the short at the end called "Bonestorm" where the 2 skateboarder kids go skating down a drained canal and get jumped by some demonic cult of sorts. IIRC it was about the only highlight of that 3rd installment of the VHS series. Pretty wild & unusual, but creative.

Spring was a bizarre love story that was sold as some sort of creature feature thriller, which it simply wasn't. I was very disappointed with it from a horror perspective. I wrote a short & sweet review back when I was just getting my feet wet with this thread: Horror Movies

I'm all for the bizarre horror genre as it often sports some of the best creativity in the horror business, but I just wish they would go for more full-bore horror instead of dabbling with it in mixed genres.

I haven't watched any of the VHS series or the Spring movie.

Also truthfully speaking, I might have overrated Resolution and The Endless slightly due to it being 6 months since I saw Resolution and the fact that the internet and indie film festivals are seriously crushing on Benson and Moorehead. It made me rethink my original ratings when I probably should have just left them as they were.

I just saw the endless... But have not yet seen Resolution... But I do wonder with your description if the scene in the endless where the older brother is getting the guns from the 2 best friends, if that is from the movie resolution...

As in the 2 movies are somehow intertwined...

Anyone see The Domestics yet? Holy crap!

Did you ever wonder what it would be like to cross The Road Warrior with cult classic The Warriors? Well, wonder no more and just tune into this apocalyptic nightmare!

Kate Bosworth and her facial hair husband cross post-apocalyptic Wisconsin gang territory to try to reunite with her family. At first she is a sniveling waste of space who her husband has to carry but over time she toughens up and goes full bad-ass on the situation.

Bullets fly, heads explode, crazy misogynistic gang members attack, and general mayhem ensues!

There are plenty of plot holes and I really wish they had followed up on the background motivations and maybe a closer look at the worldwide situation.......but that being said: If you are a fan of gritty post-apocalyptic violence with a 70's explotation like I am, then this is a movie for you!!

For some stupid reason this is currently getting a 5.7 on IMDB (screw you guys) but for me it immediately shoots to the top of my best of the year list. I will go 8.5-9.0 range with only complaints being that they could have explored the post-apocalyptic scenario further and better, a lack of gratuitous nudity, and I would have loved even more crazed anti-social violence!!

    Check it out folks!

I know i've seen Resolution, but it's been so long ago, most of it escapes me from the trailer other than his friend there locked up. That being said, I haven't seen your second movie, but it reminds me in a sense of a film, which name escapes me at this point. It was about a guy that found out his father was essentially Manson (they may have in fact used Manson) and he goes to the current day cult that still worships his father, I've forgotten most of it, but it was interesting.

I might have overrated just a bit because of my genre bias. But still a great flick in my book!

Given our similarities in taste... Anything you deem "best of the year" on your list is going to get my immediate attention.

That was the same with me. I liked Resolution but it didn't blow me away, and was generally not stuck in my memory but watching The Endless pulled me back in a bit.

It is obviously divisive as I was watching some YouTube reviews and either they really liked it or they just didn't get it and complained about points that were really not relevant.

Chef will be chagrined by the lack of naked funbags though!
