I believe Jones would have the lowest batting average of any HOFer. (Would)

But I might have missed some catcher none of us could pick out of a lineup.

Harmon Killebrew .256
Andruw Jones .254
Leo Durocher is a few points lower, but I believe he went in as a Manager and not a player.

Average HOFer .302

So to sum it up. Braves fans say yes, everyone else says he was very good, but not quite there.

Also everyone including Braves fans agree that he juiced.....except BoF because it takes all the wind out of his sails in his best hitters soap box.

Everyone was on it back then. Chipper And Jeter are probably the only 2 HOF position players from that time period that were clean.

Ray Schalk .253. But his OBP was higher than Jones.

My criteria for the HOF of any sport, is if I have to think about it, it's a no.

Jones belongs in the Hall of very good, he was probably 2 more great seasons away from the Hall, but he regressed early in age.
I hear that criteria a lot, and it doesn't make much sense to me. There has to be a line somewhere between a HOFer and a non-HOFer. There's always going to be a "worst guy in the HOF" and "best guy not in the HOF". What makes a guy "I don't have to think about it, he's definitely in" to "I have to think about it"? A line that you've drawn in your mind, which, you had to think about.

Great player that never struck me as a HOF'er

Without looking at the numbers, i would guess not enough great years...Some great years, and some years hanging on where he was pretty average

I'd be fine with him making the HOF, be he wasn't the best choice for the '05 MVP (voters got it right that year). Outside of his home runs (which are less than 10% of his total at bats), there was nothing really special about his offense in '05 (his RBIs are largely a function of his HRs, considering he hit .207 with RISP that year).

For his HOF, I put him in the borderline CF category with Jim Edmonds (who didn't get in).
I agree I think he's borderline and Edmonds is a good comp. Considering Edmonds was one-and-done on the ballot, which I thought was kinda ridiculous, I don't know if Jones will last long.

What's interesting is that Beltran, Edmonds, and Jones all got lumped together once Griffey fell off. There really wasn't consensus on the best CFer in baseball after Griffey, and I'm wondering if that is going to hurt them in the voting. If I had to pick one, I'd take Beltran, but wouldn't be against all 3 getting in.
