You guys must be trolling me tonight. Jones almost surely was clean, Javy is naturally ripped.

Except Jones was a juicer and so was Javy. Javy might have been naturally ripped, but that big home run spike late in his career, and the coming back down afterwards is a pretty dead giveaway.

He was a solid, not great hitter in the Majors his entire career, and then all of a sudden at age 33, he blows up for 43 homers(an increase of 32 homers from the previous season), and then falls back down again. That wasn't natural.

That was his final year on his Braves contract and he'd missed quite a few games with nagging injuries since his 34 hr season at 27, I you might be right about that one contract season.

You have no basis to suspect Andruw, he always had plenty of power, he just learned pitches better. When he made the right contact even in Macon, the ball had excellent carry.

Andruw's biggest problem was Terry Pendleton. Tried to make him an off field single hitter when he was a pure power hitter.

His power didn't drop till he left The Braves though.
He was never gonna him .320, his weakness was early pitch recognition, but he got better at it over his time in Atlanta. My best guess is he didn't push himself or have the focus without the support group he grew up with.
A side note, I got to know Andruw's sister who worked for The Rome Braves, she might still do so. She is a very affable person.

Of course he was never going to hit .320, but Pendleton wanted him to. Pendelton was the worst histting coach Atlanta could have chosen at the time. At least in my opinion.

You think his career went to shit because he was lazy?

But is deserving of the HOF?

Like Mauer, he juiced for a short while. It's that simple.

Bull Shit, he was big and strong at 17, getting better at pitch recognition was what made him better. He crushed balls even in the minors when he made proper contact. He often looked awful when he guessed fast ball and got an off speed pitch.

I don't know. I have mixed feelings about TP as a hitting coach. The team did have some good OBP seasons with him.

His best OBP was at 23.

Not sure how his pitch selection improving accounts for a 22 homer jump in one season.

He juiced man. Nobody cares. I'd take Marte, when he's back from his PED suspension.

You guys are just pulling this out of your asses.
AJ,s highest WAR rating was also at 23, that is the peak age for speed and quickness.
He had 5 seasons with at least 31 HRs and 7 straight seasons with at least 26 HR's before his 51 HR season. That came at age 28, which is historically the best age for HRs. He was the youngest player in NL history to have at least 200 HRs as well, that coming well before his best season for HRs, Also he didn't have crazy numbers like Bonds did, he had 10 fewer doubles than the year before.
Nope, his career in Atlanta was a textbook power chart.

I don't know what happened to him late in his career. He did strike out too much for my liking. Offensively no.

Defensively he was the best in MLB for a long time. every night there was some sort of highlight or great play by him defensively.

I say yes. Best defensive CF Ive ever seen. Should have won the MVP in 05(He carried that team to the playoffs)

I'd be fine with him making the HOF, be he wasn't the best choice for the '05 MVP (voters got it right that year). Outside of his home runs (which are less than 10% of his total at bats), there was nothing really special about his offense in '05 (his RBIs are largely a function of his HRs, considering he hit .207 with RISP that year).

For his HOF, I put him in the borderline CF category with Jim Edmonds (who didn't get in).

I believe Jones would have the lowest batting average of any HOFer. (Would)

But I might have missed some catcher none of us could pick out of a lineup.

His batting average is .004 points bellow Rabbit Maranville's, but his OBP was .019 points higher.
