WASNT SURE WHERE TO PUT THIS SO HERE IT IS

ok take this fwiw but....

Im hearing that Newsome will be out after the season and that stinespring will be taking a 'lesser' role with the team maybe even terminated.

I also heard that there has been a little turmoil amongst our staff and that some guys werent happy with the way frank handled some things. These issues go back before last year and have to do with Shane being named AHC and the fact that Cav was given a desk.

Also heard that there has been some disconnect between the O and D staff since the pitt game. Not sure what that is all about.

again take it fwiw but thats what im hearing, hope to hear more thurs.

And where are you hearing this? If there isn't some turmoil amongst the staff at this point in the season, then we can forget about anything changing before FB retires. Stiney probably thinks he should be named HC-in-waiting.... :L

Highly doubt Stinespring leaves the program FWIW, moving him to OL coach would not shock me though, jmho

I agree with you Evan as a matter of fact I've even said that i think Stiney has a 'job for life' as long as Frank is around but i was just passing on what i was told. FWIW though i also agree that he could be moved down to the OL.

Do you (or anyone else) think he would be a better OL coach than Newsome?

Wasnt great before but taught a much less complicated system than what Newsome teaches. Maybe he can take what he learned from his mistakes and newsomes mistakes and pound out a pretty good OL. FWIW i think the program is in a much different position now than when stiney was OL coach. 1) the offense is a lot different and 2) i think we can attract better players now.

wow interesting hunz. Can't wait to hear more. Would love to hear other rumors on who we might pick up too.

Really a shame if there is turmoil against our staff. The one positive thing about this staff, is how family oriented they always seem, even when it causes us to suck.

The problem here is there are little raw stats to be found to compare Stiney's tenure to Newsomes. Even if there was a meaningful stat, we run completely different offenses from then to now. In order to make this anything other than a subjective waste of time, we can only look at what the experts thought of the OL players talents and skills.

Stiney was OL coach from 1993 to 2005. We had 9 OL draft picks in that time period. In the 6 full seasons since, we've had 3 drafted. 93-05 had 5 All-American selections. Since then, we've had zero on the line. From 93 to 05 we had 9 first team all conference, 13 second team. Now keep in mind ACC vs Big East, but also the early 2000s Miami lines in those conference numbers. Since then, we've had 1 first team and 8 second team.

Based on that, I'd say Stiney is a more productive OL coach than Newsome. The question shouldn't be who is better though, the question should be is Stiney an acceptable OL coach?

*NFL draft and All Americans from hokiesports
*All ACC / All Big East from their own websites.

I blame Seth Greenberg. BTW, I am not hearing O'Cain mentioned.....please tell me its a given that he is gone.

i think that o'cain's criticism is a bit unfair ... i think that he's done well with quarterback development minus this season (he has to take some of the blame for logan's problems) .. as far as the play calling goes, i'm sure he's doing what he's told to do ... the scapegoat if you will .. i feel the same way about sherman .. i think he's done a very decent job with his receivers (two very average receivers coming out of hs in boykin and coale >> nfl prospects). i wouldn't be totally heart-broken to see the entire offensive staff go .. but i don't see that happening

at the very least, newsome has to go and stinespring should not be an offensive coordinator ... if those two things happen, things should be headed into a better direction

With O'Cain his only sure fire positive contribution at VT is Tyrod. LT is to be decided...solid last year without too much being asked of him but a disaster this year. The way I see it the offense has been so bad anyone involved with it is expendable especially if their recruiting isn't an asset. If O'Cain is calling the plays then I think he needs to go. If Stinespring and Beamer are calling the plays or limiting what he can do then he needs to go. If he has good ideas but isn't assertive enough or isn't selling them to the rest of the staff then they're no good. Stinespring to OL would be an improvement, jesus H anything would but with how important the OL is I would put in the hands of someone more capable. NFL experience playing or coaching or at least a consistent high level of performance at the D-1 level. Of course I would take any change at OL though. If there are changes that's the good part. The bad part is that Beamer will most likely have a say so. I don't have faith in him to make good decisions on the offensive side. I don't think he has the mind for it because of Newsome, O'Cain, and Stinespring. 3 huge mistakes that have not been corrected for 6-10 years

This sounds plausible. I remember thinking naming Shane AHC might cause some ripples but I forgot about it since I never heard much about it. Nepotism never works. Don't get me wrong. I like Shane and believe he has a place on our staff. I just feel like he was moved up way too soon and that's why I felt there may be some friction.

The Cav thing sounds plausible as well. That whole ordeal just reeks of old boy's club. You've got a guy that really isn't needed anymore but you give him a desk job to keep him on payroll.

And its not hard to see why D and O staffs might have some beef amongst each other.

You got it on the other 2 but the point about Cav was that some of the staff wanted him to stay on the field. Also the position that was created for him is actually pretty common at a lot of other schools and is a big help in recruiting.

I had heard a rumor from some people a week ago or so that O'cain was going to retire at the end of the season, Stiney would be moved to OL, Newsome gone and we were looking that the La Tech OC. Just rumors but they are coinciding with the rumor posted here...

Everything is a rumor as of now, but I could see that happening. Nothing will be decided until the end of the season

including the part about Tony Franklin? I have a hard time imagining Beamer going that kind of direction with the offense. If he does, I will worry about him having second thoughts and hamstringing the OC when there are bumps in the road. But I'm no insider, so what do I know.
