The 1-3 Steelers fresh off their 1st win of the season on MNF convincingly over the Bengals now get the defending champion Ravens this week. The 2-2 Ravens looked good in weeks 1 and 2 vs inferior teams rushing out to a 2-0 start. The last two games have been vs stiffer competition in KC and CLE...the game last week against the Browns had to be a slap in the face. CLE went into BAL without both starting safeties and won by 2 TDs.
The Ravens come in ranked 1st on OFC, and 23rd on DEF...not typical of a Ravens team to be leading the league in scoring, but it just goes to show that early season rankings don't really mean that much. They walloped MIA with 59 pts in week one to spike the average. The rush DEF the last two games has been surprisingly unlike the Ravens...they gave up 140 to KC and 193 to CLE on the ground.
The Steelers have won 4 of the last 5 in this rivalry...last year was a split with both teams winning on the road. The Ravens are the #1 rushing team in the league. I watched the KC and CLE games...on OFC they look very much the same...the read option is still a part of their OFC, with Jackson carrying the ball less than year, mostly on keep the chains moving downs. He is going down field with many of his passes, they still feature TEs in the passing game but Marquise Brown is flourishing early and Mark Ingram has been the primary RB, very effective so far with 5 TDs.
Injuries
Vince Williams ILB questionable
Cameron Heyward DE questionable
Vance McDonald TE questionable
Jayrone Elliott LB questionable
Anthony Chickillo DE out
Add Nix to the Out list
With a MNF game the week is a tad shorter than normal with and Sunday game to follow...hopefully Heyward and McDonald can practice between now and Fri.
Outlook
Vegas has the Steelers as 3.5 home dogs in this one. I love that position for the Steelers who can lose focus when things are going well...their backs are still very much against the wall. The Ravens will be a stiffer challenge than CIN, but I like their chances if they tighten up their run DEF. The Ravens DEF might be without Brandon Williams. They have people that can get to the QB, but they are not the Ravens of old in that department. For a team that game plans against the Steelers better than any other team aside from maybe NE, seeing the game last week had to put that staff on OT as they have some Rudolph plays to prepare for.
I'm going 23-17 PIT
