Will Peppers go down as a top 10 defensive player of all time when he decides to hang em up? Considering he is athletic enough and could play until he is 40 and can still produce big seasons. He's also imo along with Ray Lewis the most dominant defensive player of this generation, more so than guys like DeMarcus Ware, Jared Allen, Michael Strahan, Jason Taylor, Dwight Freeney, Ed Reed, Troy Polamalu, Brian Dawkins, Champ Bailey, Darrelle Revis, Charles Woodson, Brian Urlacher, Patrick Willis, Warren Sapp, etc.

My top 10 defensive players of all time, with Peppers getting consideration to crack the list once he finishes his career and adds to his already HOF resume.

1. Reggie White
2. Lawrence Taylor
3. Dick Butkus
4. Rod Woodson
5. Joe Greene
6. Ray Lewis
7. Deacon Jones
8. Ronnie Lott
9. Alan Page
10. Bruce Smith

Peppers biggest problem was always he took lays off. he was so naturally skilled that he never had to work as hard as he should have. he was a guy who had the potential to destroy the records book, but he never reached that level. i loved his time in Carolina and was sad to see him go. but the truth is he was an elite player because of everything he brought to the table. however he never reached that Iconic status that he could/should have.

This got to the point of being bizarre about 5 or 6 pages of propaganda ago. Wow.

If you gotta try this hard to sell your product, then your product is probably a loser.

Oh please. Allen and Harrison were both better in their primes than Peppers ever has been. And callining Allen a one trick pony is laughable as he was worlds better against the run than Peppers ever was during his prime years.

Peppers is more versatile than any of the players on the list but he flat out didn't show up like other players did because he didn't have the high motor that other less talented players had.

He was "dominant" in so far as he was often the best player on the defenses he played on more often than not. But so were a lot of edge players of this era.

And everyone on that list made GAME CHANGING plays for their teams. In fact most of them did it is a much higher rate than Peppers ever did. That is why his stats (you know....plays that he made) were always a little lower than everyone on that list.

To me Peppers will always be a little bit of a disappointment in the same way Mario Williams has been. Both physical specimens that have no peer in the league. But they were never even all that close to the most dominant defensive players in any given year during their entire career.

My goodness I don't even know where to begin with this... Allen and Harrison better than Peppers in their prime? Allen a better run defender than Peppers? LOL, good one man. I've posted numerous examples from articles in this thread that show Peppers not having a high motor and taking plays off was and is pure BS. My goodness everyone on that list have made more game changing plays than Peppers? What on earth are you talking about bro, I'm not gonna post all their stats, that would take too much time, but you can look for youself on ESPN stats and Pro Football Reference stats to see who of all the players on that list has more game changing plays and better stats. Peppers will have as many or more sacks, forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, interceptions, blocked kicks, touchdowns, etc. as all of them. Peppers is WAY more dominant and makes WAY more game changing plays, and has WAY better stats than Mario Williams. Also Peppers has made more Pro Bowls, and All Pro Teams, (combined first and second) than nearly everyone on your list. Peppers is this generations best edge rusher, without question. Look it up brah.

Name a single year during his career where Peppers had a top 5 year among defensive players. He was always really, really good and a top 10-20 defensive player. But he never had that amazing, truly dominant season where he was hands down a top 3 defensive player in the league that season.

He's basically the DE's version of Tony Romo or Big Ben. Really, really, really good for a long time and a player any team would love to have on their team. But never, ever the best.

Read post numbers 152 and 153 on page 10 of this thread, then realize your faults and never post something as asinine again as you did here.

I read all of those when they first came out. I watched every game Pep played for Carolina, and every game he play at UNC. I remember these plays vividly.

What I am telling you is while peppers was a top DE in the NFL and could really do anything. He never truly reached his full potential. The man should have averaged 12 to 16 sacks a year. In the 10-12 that he actually is.

If you are asking is Peppers the most physically gifted DE to ever play then the answer is yes and not by a narrow margin. However peppers at this point should be top 10 or better in sacks, but he is not. On sheer talent yes Peppers is probably the best defensive player to ever play, there can be arguments made variously of course but whatever. However, statistically Peppers does not measure up like he should be.

Nobody is saying he wasn't a great player and will prolly be a hall of famer on day.

Carolina Panthers: Best and worst draft picks - NFL.com

Not many people outside of the Carolinas probably remember this, but there was a vocal faction leading up to the 2002 NFL Draft that felt the Panthers should take Oregon QB Joey Harrington. Good thing John Fox stuck to his defensive instincts. While Harrington flamed out in Detroit, Peppers emerged as one of the NFL's most dangerous pass rushers. Peppers posted 12 sacks his rookie season and had five other double-digit sack seasons in Carolina. A two-sport star at UNC, Peppers' athleticism made him unique among his peers. How he lost out on the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award in 2004 -- a season in which he scored two touchdowns in addition to his 11 sacks -- remains one of the sport's unsung travesties.

Not a stalker at all, just a Peppers fan, no not indexing anything, went back and looked at what post numbers refuted idiotic statements made by certain posters.

He definitely will be a hall of famer. As far as sacks, there's a lot more to being a dominant defender besides just sacks man, as I've pointed out numerous other times, Peppers does more than just get sacks. He forces tons of fumbles which may be a turnover if his team recovers, recovers fumbles which get his team the ball back, gets passes defensed which is a wasted down for the offense or may lead to an interception, gets interceptions himself which get his team the ball back, blocks kicks which wipes points off the board for opposing teams, gets plenty of sacks and hurries QB's into rushed decisions leading to bad throws or possibly INT's. Has scored 6 defensive touchdowns in his career, (a great number for a D lineman) which puts points on the board for his team. Sets the edge against the run better than just about any 4-3 DE. Takes on double teams allowing his teammates to make plays, (gets double teamed more than most elite edge rushers.) Moves all over the line and plays linebacker and can drop into coverage smoothly showcasing his valuable skill set and versatility. More so than any DE to ever play the game.

If Peppers plays until he's 40, which he very well could, and continues to dominate, he could very well be considered a top 10 defensive player of all time.
