The same reason smaller schools like GA St. plays competition way over their talent level such as TN, Penn St, etc...for that big check.

No other reason....but that big check goes a long way for smaller programs.

IMO, it doesn't matter whether you can win the conference if you play in the SEC, it's almost a lock the program will run in the black based on the TV/bowl money the conference brings in. Playing in the SEC as an impact starter, you will likely get a shot to play at the next level....so even the bottom feeders are able to attract NFL level talent.
