The offseason wasn't overly eventful, but I think Adrian Wilson will make a huge difference when considering how bad they were at such a crucial position. I'm also personally a huge fan of Dobson as a pick on offense. One play can never truly define a player but the catch he made best of the best for was one of the best I've personally seen, and if his hands are near as good as they're supposed to be, he will be an awesome addition to the offense. Blount was another move with very good upside IMO. If he is near the player he was his rookie year, before he was pretty inexplicably replaced, he could have a solid impact as well.

Anyways, I don't blame you for not picking them. I am biased so deliberately disqualified them for the purpose of this thread. I am actually very excited for the team the patriots will field this year, and I have been pessimistic for the last several because defense was an issue to me. It doesn't have to be the best in the NFL. I think it will be solid personally, but as long as it's not easy for an above average QB to drive the length of the field in 5 minutes to win, it will be an improvement.

Please elaborate.

Something, anything concrete will do.

A.) You can't say that Doug Martin wasn't a massive upgrade over Blount.
B.) Stevan Ridley had a great season last year. Blount may get a few short-yardage carries per game, but Ridley is far-and-away the better RB there.

first year 201 1,007 5.0 YPC
Second year 184 781 4.2 YPC

Clearly Martin handled a bigger load and did so effectively. I'm not saying Blount is better, but completely cutting him off when he was effective in both of his first two years was a little extreme.

Ridley did so splitting touches with multiple other backs. Blount could theoretically get 100 or so touches without having any effect on ridley's touches. I like Ridley. I really do. But I would much rather have Blount on my roster than Danny woodhead.

Lions fans telling Patriots fans how their team isn't any good. I've seen it all now.

Most of them were making legitimate points, some of which I would agree with and some which I wouldn't, but I have no problem admitting my team has weaknesses. I deliberately will never pick them to win the Super Bowl because I am not objective on the matter, but I'll gladly discuss my team with anyone interested and capable of reasonable discussion.

Now being told with nothing to back it up or even any point that I'm an idiot to be laughed at mildly annoys me. Just tell me why at least.

Not targeting this at you swarm, but I've actually always loved when other fans say this. Like following a certain team gives anyone an edge on football knowledge. So just b/c you root for a perennial loser, that means that fan knows less than a fan from a traditionally winning program? If you're dumb, you're dumb, plain and simple.

For those two weeks when shoktard was a FudgePacker fan, did that all of a sudden make him smarter than the rest of us Lions fans? ;)

Being a Lions fan, we see this all-dee-time. It's quite comical and almost always not worth the argument b/c then everyone gets off topic(shocking that it ever happens) and forgets the original argument for quite some time. Either way, I wish that would get left out of arguments. Rooting for a certain team should have no baring on the opinions/ideas being shared. Ok, back to the original topic.....

I don't mean it like Lions fans are dumb, I just find it funny when a lot of us (myself included) can be quite optomisitc when it comes to our Lions, but when it comes to a perennial power like the Patriots, we find ways to be pessimistic. You have to find some humor in that.

I was actually going to make the same point. The only exception is someone like thruthefog, who in a different thread projected the lions at 12-4, then wants to make comments on my assessment of my team.

I know, and I knew you were joking. Just seemed like the right segue into that topic.

Thruthefog was more than likely joking. You'd have to know the guy or know his past posts to assume that. But....I don't wanna speak for him. ;)

Us Lions fans can't even agree on our own issues and trying to tell a successful franchise how to run their team is hiliarious.

Thanks for the laugh swarm. That was classic.

I think Blount's issue in TB was his attitude. What'shisface there from Rutgers is a discipline freak (read: insecure) and Blout is a trouble child. It's why he went undrafted.

It also doesn't help his case that he doesn't catch the ball well and also isn't very assignment sound in pass-pro. I'm sure the Pats have a plan for him and hell be effective as a big hammer to pound the ball on limited carries.

I wasn't saying he wasn't a good addition- quality depth is always good, but he's just that: depth. I just wouldn't count on him to be a big part of that offense given his skill-set. He's a good power runner and a nice guy to have in a RB stable, though.

I'd take Woodhead over Blount 100 times out of 100, he's a much more complete back and has game-breaking speed. I was pretty surprised the Pats let him walk, but it seems like Shane Vereen fills the same role...

Shane Vareen is going to be totally awesome. I don't think people realize what a talented tandem the Pats have with Ridley and Vareen. If Ridley doesn't KO himself in the AFC Title game trying to do too much, the Ravens aren't the SB champs right now.

Maybe. I'm not particularly worried about it, just saying that would be the exception I could see. People with extremely optimistic views of their team (and 12-4 is possible) calling out others for what is also an optimistic view, but to a lesser extent, seems silly to me.

For the record, this is the most optimistic I have been in years. I expected the playoff berths, but with any team since '07, I have went into the season with bad feelings about what would happen with the game on the line. The defense has been scary bad for a few years, and while I still had all the trust in the world in Brady, if the game came down to needing a stop we were in trouble. This year, while it's not a dominant defense, I don't think it will be quite a gimme for opposing QBs.

I hated woodhead with a passion as a player. Think a much slower jahvid best with no upside and mediocre hands. They managed to use him reasonably well schematically, but even still it was canceled out by shit like lining him up in the backfield and running power plays. His skill set was far from special and the main reason he had success was he knew the offense and where to be.

That's great, but I'd rather have that in a package that has some skills to back it up.
