When will Lebron pass Jordan?

A difficult question to answer. But here is a list of 7'0" or taller players today that would have absolutely dominated back then.
Joel Embiid
Rudy Gobert
Karl Towns
Hassan Whiteside
Marc Gasol
Porzingas would likely do so as well but the lack of a 3 point line would limit his value so I'm not as sure.

The only one on the list of centers who is as tall as Wilt (7-1 or 7-2) is Gobert. So you think Gobert could have averaged 50 points / game in the '60s ?

Hmmm. I can't say for sure one way or the other.

The game was played VERY differently back then. Wilt AVERAGED 48.5 minutes per game the year he scored 50 a game. He averaged 39 shots per game that year.

But I think that just about any of those guys going back in a time machine and playing that league would absolutely dominate.

Gobert would not have averaged 50. He would have been great for sure, but his stats lines probably would have looked more like Russell's. Gobert struggles to catch the ball sometimes. No chance he is scoring 50 a game.

Most people have no clue how good of a player & athlete someone like Wilt was. In the late 1970s -- when Wilt was in his 40s -- he was a world-class volleyball player.

I'm not arguing that Gobert would have been as good as Wilt. I've said repeatedly that I think that Wilt is a GOAT level player.

But we can't just ignore the realities of how basketball was played back then.

No freakin way that Gobert would have been as dominant as Wilt.

I think Wilt could be a 30/15 guy today. In today's game, I think Wilt could have guarded on the perimeter better than most centers. Could you imagine him in the pick & roll ?

Odd comment. Wilt was one of the most healthy/reliable players in the history of the NBA. (Russell, Jabbar, Hakeem, etc. also -- they were rarely hurt. Except when Kareem punched Benson.)

Guys like Irving & Curry & Wall -- they have struggled to stay healthy.

There's only so many 7 footers in the world. 7 foot is 7 foot. I think the difference would be more pronounced in the guards.

Facts, but that doesn't mean skilled bigs today wouldn't dominate back then. Hardly anyone was Wilt.

There was a difference in conditioning and playing time for sure. Wilt played 48.5 minutes a game one year, obviously they didn't play with the same ferocity and intensity they do now. It was different.

A modern NBA player with modern conditioning and training would absolutely dominate the league in much the same way that Wilt did.

If you took one of those bigs back to 1961 and a coach saw their athleticism and strength, then I think it is entirely possible that they would give that player 40 shots a game.

Would it have happened? Probably not.

Having said that, give Wilt today's training and conditioning programs and who the heck knows what he could do today?
