When has an Ohio State QB ever been good in the NFL?

I said the gameplan should be to sit Fields the first year; he is still very young and a lot to learn. You aren’t putting him in the right position to succeed with that OL. That is on the coaches

Did they bench Andy Rocket?
Mrs. Chaney must be devastated.

Would you have started this guy today instead?

They did give up a second round pick for their third QB.

Tom Matte...played QB at Ohio State. Had a nice professional career with the Baltimore Colts...as a halfback. Though, in 1965, when QB Johnny U. and backup QB Gary Cuozzo were both injured for the final season game, Matte played QB and his team beat the Rams 20-17. So, they had to play a tie-breaker game for the division championship against Green Bay a week later. Matte was still at QB. They lost 13-10 in a sudden death overtime loss.

Gary Cuozzo’s brother was my orthodontist…..Gary was a local legend and my father knew him growing up……

holy crap I just seen a list of Ohio St. QBs in the NFL.
Only 2 have more TDs than INTs.
Troy Smith (small sample size) 8 TDs to 5 INTs.
but really the only QB that I would count is Kent Graham 39 TDs to 33 INTs
Everyone else on the list had more INTs than TDs.
I dont really buy into dont draft a certain Position from a certain College Like Penn St. & RBs. (Larry Johnson says hi)
but I dont think I would draft a QB from Ohio st. (to play QB) ever after reading this LOL

YEARNAMEROUNDRECORDCAREER STATISTICS
1982Art Schlichter10-61,006 yards, 3 TDs, 11 INTs
1985Mike Tomczak*FA42-3116,079 yards, 88 TDs, 106 INTs
1988Tom Tupa34-93,430 yards, 12 TDs, 25 INTs
1992Kent Graham817-217,801 yards, 39 TDs, 33 INTs
1996Bobby Hoying33-9-12,544 yards, 11 TDs, 15 INTs
1999Joe Germaine40-0136 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs
2004Craig Krenzel53-2718 yards, 3 TDs, 6 INTs
2007Troy Smith54-41,734 yards, 8 TDs, 5 INTs
2011Terrelle Pryor**33-71,994 yards, 9 TDs, 12 INTs
2016Cardale Jones40-096 yards, 0 TDs, 1 INT
2019Dwayne Haskins13-102,804 yards, 12 TDs, 14 INTs
Tomczak did last the Longest & wasnt drafted so my point still makes sense.
Next longest lasting QB was 8th rd.
So if you want. Maybe take a flyer on a late 7th rd. pick nowadays LOL
Other than that. NO!

Yeah not many were projected to be anything but average at the NFL level. Other than Art, Haskins (should have went 2nd or 3rd rd imo) and now Fields, all were not projected low. Watching Krenzel, Cardale, Pryor and even Troy Smith they weren’t set up to be anything special. It’s just one of those teams that recruits QB’s decently well, way better now, that are set up for college system but not the pros. Pryor actually converted to WR and had a couple good years! LOL

Add in Braxton Miller, he actually converted to WR late in his college career.

Doesn’t count.

He knew he had to leave if he wanted a future. Smart kid.

Spent several years there, should count IMO. Just didn't want to waste his time lower on the depth chart, and rightfully so. The truly smart thing to do would've been to start in a program where he was the starter at latest in his sophomore year. The transfer portal is currently making these changes easier though.

You would think more of these kids all pumped up to join a specific powerhouse only to be a depth player would learn, especially if they have pro prospects. Not many college backups get enough exposure to get drafted.

My cousin got one snap under center two weeks ago for Michigan. More than I thought he might get his entire college career. He’d be starting at a lot of schools. 5th string at the school he wanted to be at….

Had to hurt Burrow to leave home. I’m sure his dream was to be tOSU’s QB.

Recently released from prison Sept 2nd this month.

Schlichter was paroled over the objection of Ohio prosecutors.
“My advice to anyone coming upon Mr. Schlichter is that they not engage in any business transactions or any purchases or any other transactions that would involve giving him any money,”

Yeap...

Problem is the Bears fans....well they really haven't seen a QB since Sid Luckman.

Which means, they haven't seen a QB.

No Jim McMahon doesn't count. Yeah of course it's early.

Funny thing is this what message boards are about right? Messing with fans?

Anyway, in all seriousness. Yes, the confidence of any player (especially QB) is very fragile.

I was truly wondering though if there has ever been an Ohio State QB that made it in the NFL. Yes it is a fallacy to think just because he went there that that would mean he will be an automatic bust.

But....

Messing with fans by asking poignant rhetorical questions is a fun way.

BTW, how many Big 10 QBs have been successes in the NFL?

Brady. He made Belishit and Mcdick think they were greater than they were.

Brees. He was solid certainly.
Fair point and to answer your question only one I can recall is Tomczak.

while you were busting balls there are fans who think this matters. I mean, before Baker who was the best QB from Oklahaoma? Before Mahomes, had there been many successful QBs from Texas tech? Same for Allen/Wyoming, Brady/UM, Brees, Purdue (Griese, I guess), Rodgers/Cal, etc.

Really aren't any schools until the latest Oklahoma run I can think that were good at producing QBs.

To answer your question about BIG QBs, I'd add Cousins and Wilson off the top of my head.

Happen to think it might change with Day as he's a little different in the QBs he goes after than Urban and Tressell. seems like pro style QBs are also more willing to play for him.

85 year old Jason Peters one on one with Myles. Who would have thought it wouldn't work out
