He went to his grave saying that Byron Nelson was the greatest to ever play the game and no one will ever be better. He stated that the reason Byron retired so early is because the USGA/Royal and Ancient wouldn't change the rules for ground under repair. Sure, he said that he questions the competition Nebraska played in 95.... um, they played 4 top 10 teams, 01 Miami played 1, 04 USC played 2 and they struggled to beat Cal, 4-7 Stanford, as well as 6-6 UCLA. This in if itself shows that he doesn't know dick about the older teams. Plus his little comment about walking Miamis line up... um, they almost lost to Va Tech and BC game them crazy problems. While the triple option was what Nebraska ran primarily, it isn't like they never passed, had nearly 2000 yards passing and 18 passing TDs. Not to mention, Nebraskas defense was ball hawks. Nebraska had 20 INTS, 5 of those returned for TDs. 1 punt returned for a TD. So it isn't like Nebraska only had one way to score. And he says "1st rounders" as if they are all draft years and draftees are the same based on positioning in the draft. That's just not true. So again, fact is that Herbstreit doesn't know dick about any team before 2000.

I can't say that. While it is true that a lot of the athletes are bigger and stronger and faster nowadays, this was done essentially by doing what Nebraska was doing in their strength and conditioning program. If I remember right, 95 Nebraska had the 300lb linemen back then and there is no denying the speed of that 95 team.

Do you actually believe that nonsense? The advancement in sports medicine, specialized trainers, dieticians, nutritionists, weight lifting equipment, the lifting programs, etc. change on a yearly basis.

Hell, even the athletes themselves have WAY more specialized training and coaching before even getting to college than they did in the 90’s.

You can think 95 Nebraska would hammer teams in 2019, but it wouldn’t happen.

Highly doubtful. Miami wasn't even that impressive against a Nebraska team that had no business being there. People are putting too much stock into the amount of 1st rounders that Miami team sent to the NFL. But that Miami team was not as dominant during the season as Texas was.
