I sure think it's a possibility.
What if it's a close game though???

Top 8 might look something like this.
  1. 2018 Alabama
  2. 1995 Nebraska
  3. 2004 USC
  4. 2001 Miami
  5. 1973 Oklahoma
  6. 1979 Alabama
  7. 2005 Texas
  8. 1956 Oklahoma

Would the score have to be somewhere in the area of 62-24??

Replace '01 Miami with '05 Texas. '01 Miami was an ass hair away from losing to VT and BC that year.

Mmmno. If '01 Miami plays '05 Texas, '01 Miami wins

Highly doubtful. Miami wasn't even that impressive against a Nebraska team that had no business being there. People are putting too much stock into the amount of 1st rounders that Miami team sent to the NFL. But that Miami team was not as dominant during the season as Texas was.

Bullshit. That Miami team had that championship game won before the 1st quarter was even over. Granted, that certainly wasnt one of Nebraska's best squads, but there was NO doubt Miami was the undisputed best TEAM in the country that season. Not to mention they completely embarrassed a game Washington team a few weeks prior. '05 Texas was very good, but mainly because of Vince. Without him, that Texas team doesnt even register on the "memorable" scale, and they damn sure arent beating USC for the national title

For sure, but you can make that argument for almost every team that won a NC. UF doesn't sniff a title without Tebow, SC doesn't sniff a title w/out Leinart, AU definitely doesn't sniff a title without Cam, Clemson's the same without Watson, etc. That '05 Texas team wound up sending a ton of players to the NFL just like '01 Miami did.

Miami was more dominant than Texas.

Texas was a dropped pass by a TE away from losing to tOSU (a game they won 25-22). They also trailed Okie St. 28-12 at HT (after trailing 28-9), and made 2 FGs to turn a 34-29 lead over TAMU into a 40-29 win. The USC win in no way could be said to be “dominant”.

Miami did beat VT 26-24, but were up 26-10 before a couple of late TDs. The BC game was the closest in many ways, as it was 12-7 when Reed’s puck 6 sealed the deal.

To answer OP, no. Even if Bama wins big (which is doubtful), the UGA game eliminates them from consideration.

Playing at the Shoe at night will be tough for anybody. That game should not have been as close anyway. tOSU's kicker had like 6 FG's that night and tOSU was the #4 ranked team. '05 Texas set the record for most points scored in a season at the time with 652 pts. Texas woke up at halftime against Okie jr and DESTROYED them in the 2nd half 56-35. Miami wasn't more dominant than texas. They just sent more guys to the NFL in the 1st round than any team in NCAA history; plus they played in the shitty Big Easy, er Big East conference.

Different year with Okie St. They did “wake up” and win 47-28, but having to wake up from a 16-pt. deficit is not dominance. Neither is winning 25-22 or 40-29.

Miami outscored their 12 opponents 512-117 (avg. of 42.7-9.75), and UT outscored their 13 opponents 652-213 (avg. of 50.2-16.4). Texas was the better offense; Miami the better D. Texas had some big blowouts, but more close wins.

First question is who decided that '95 Nebraska was the best team ever? That's a joke
