I don't think there's any reason to believe there won't be a deal. If it goes past the July 15 deadline, then there's a discussion to be had.

They were talking about this on NFL live on ESPN. The Broncos offered 13M less guaranteed money than Houston and Vernon. Miller is better than both of these players. Elway lowballed Brock and he left. Could Miller leave?

Did Elway really low ball Brock? Or did Houston just offer him a ridiculous amount of money that he had no business getting at this point?

The reports are Miller wants more guaranteed money up front or further into the contract because he doesn't want Denver to dump him when he's 30(he's 27 now) an be without all the extra money. I think he's fine with the total amount he just wants most of it guaranteed.

I don't like the way top tier player contracts work. I hope more stars start requiring the whole thing guaranteed, even if it's at fewer years. Would make it a lot easier to compare values and would make NFL contracts much easier to understand for casuals.

I hear you bud. As it stands right now, I really only consider the guaranteed money when comparing contracts, as no one ever actually gets the full amount of their 120 million dollar contract or whatever.

As far as Miller goes, I think both sides are doing what makes sense. Miller will probably never be more valuable than he is right now, so he should hold out for as much as possible, and Denver should try to get him for as cheap as they can and save as much of their cap as they can.

I have little doubt Miller will be playing for Denver next year on a contract that he is not fully happy with, but satisfied. That franchise tag keeps him from having all the leverage in these negogiations.

Clusterfuck is one of the most under-rated words in the English language.

If Denver doesn't sign Miller then I doubt they make the playoffs, let's see of this gets settled.

I read the other day the contract on the table is essential a two year 39M conteact. On the 5th day of the 2018 league year the remaining 4 years is guaranteed. I can see the Broncos getting their two years out if him and backing out if the final four. Maybe all they need to do is guarantee the first 3 years instead of 2.

At first I thought you were a Cards fan new to the hoop. Then I say you joined back in 2013. There ain't a ton of us on here so don't be a stranger.

As for Von. the only way he is not signed by Denver is if they forget to fax in the paperwork. AKA Elvis Dumervil.

Kinda both. He had his open market value. Top FA at any position gets paid well. Denver was in a situation where going higher meant cap constraint issues. Keeping Ware, signing help for the O-line, future negotiations for Miller/Marshall/Sanders and others, keeping that 5-6 mil of cap space for a mid-season move to help solve an injury situation or underperforming player (a-la ability to sign Evan Mathis around this time last year or add Vernon Davis), etc...

He really was pushing for Brock as even with the deal most everyone reports Denver had on the table, he would have been eating into some of those things. But the Texans cap situation basically allowed them to be able to write a blank check for Osweiler, and Elway just couldn't compete with that. Lets say they dug down even further. Didn't match CJ Anderson's deal or cut Ware or didn't sign Stephenson or Clady or whatever moves and upped their deal more.

The only thing preventing the Texans from topping it would be the amount of cash in Bob McNairs bank account, their guys coming up next year for free agency aren't Miller/Marshall/Sanders, but Demps/Wilfork (at 36 yo)/Cecil Shorts. Even after Osweiller's new deal, the Texans have only Dallas with more players signed through 2017 (and currently have 22+ mil more cap space next year than them).

I am fine with Elway holding there, he had a different team situation than Houston financially.

I thought is was only a 2M difference. Its a QB you pay it no matter what. Now Denver has Sanchez. Was it really worth the 2M savings? If Brock was still on Denver they win that division.
