Exactly. A lot of Hawks fans have convinced themselves that it is better to not have 40 million in cap committed to a QB than to have a top level QB. Historically speaking, that hasn't been the case.

This remains the big question...What will Wilson be moving forward. Patriots thought they were moving on from an aging Tom Brady that looked like he was showing signs of decline. Quickly figured out it was more the talent they had surrounded him with and sometimes that new location energizes a QB. Colts moved on from Manning thinking his arm was cooked. Goes on to have some of his best years of his career. Not saying Wilson will do that in Denver. I do think he has been paired with his best offensive mind in Hackett that I know has been working to see Wilson take the open throw underneath. They have a drill they do every day at practice where Wilson has to get the ball out in a certain time limit and the defense is set up to stop the deep ball. Took a bit for Wilson to adjust, but the more practice goes on the more he is working to hit the underneath throws.

Broncos are also working on more tight formation looks with either 2-TE or 2-RB type looks forcing teams into more Cover-1 type looks so if they want the deep ball opportunities they can force the hand of the defense.

They would rather get Wilson done before Burrow, Herbert, Jackson all get deals done and raise the minimum of what Wilson will be looking for. Last I heard it was something in the 6-year/$300 million range. Broncos think next offseason that jumps up to $55 million+ per year for top tier QB.

I think they also feel better about getting that deal done for 2 reasons 1) Wilson has already changed the culture in Denver in a good way. Coaches and players have both been shocked by how much Wilson pushes everyone in a good way. So I don't think they are expecting a bad season from Wilson. 2) New ownership being in the building makes getting the deal done a lot easier. Heck they could guarantee the entire contract and it wouldn't faze these new owners and their deep pockets. So might as well get it done sooner than later.

Yeah with out a doubt the defense lost the Hawks a chance at a repeat. They couldn't stop Brady at all in the 4th quarter and he just dinked and dunked them down the field. I think people forgot that Tom Brady threw 4 TD 2 in the 4th quarter and two drives one of 9 plays and one of 10 plays.
3rd and 14 Hawks D gave up a first, 3rd and 8 gave up another first, this was the first 4th quarter scoring drive. Pats were 8-14 in converting 3rd downs and had 22 firsts for the game and 21 of those were passing. 320 passing yards.. no one remembers that? 72 total plays for the Pats because the Seahawks defense couldn't get off the field in the 2nd half. No one remembers that? Only 53 plays for the hawks offense.... No one remembers that?

Hawks went into some kind of bullshit prevent for part of the 3rd and the whole 4th quarter.

Also Pete who is so risk adverse on offense that he took any and all chances away from the offense for 90% of the second half then to call a pass play when it mattered the most. People like to say "But he threw the INT" yes and Brady threw 2 of them so what. The Hawks should have never been in that position in the first place.

It never made any sense to me to change up the game plan when mostly everything was clicking in the biggest game of the year.

this is another reason I think the Broncos want to get things done now. They lose more power in the negotiations the longer they let things go. Throw in Wilson is working hard to sell himself to the fans right now. He might not push quite as hard in the negotiations while he is trying to look good.

It puts him $20 million more than the next QB in Kyler Murray and his contract. I wouldn't necessarily say that is true. We've seen this in the past that a team hands out a really bad contract and the rest of the league doesn't go along with it. Calvin Johnson with Detroit is a great example. WR market took years before it caught up to his contract level he was handed. We've already seen one big name QB signed that took $70 million less in guarantees with Kyler Murray. So while I might be on the low end of what Wilson is looking for in guarantees it would not surprise me to see him take less than the $230 million.

Kyler Murray is nowhere near the level of RW. Yes there will be QBs not getting the money that Watson got but any QB in the top 5 to 7 range knows the Watson deal is the starting point and that is where RW slides in.
