Well, I have to admit that part of my issue with Kyle is the fact of his contract and the pay he is pulling down. I have no idea of the ins and outs of why he has the contract he does, but I just don't believe in giving multi-year contracts I guess.
I can be optimistic, but it is hard with this organization.
When it comes to the Mariners, looking on the bright side is the only thing that retains my sanity.
Trade him for whatever you can get.I figured this topic deserved its own thread.
He completely adjusted his diet and workout routine this offseason and is clearly in much better shape, but the results have been... not good.
As of this post he is currently hitting .186/.260/.331
Here is how much we owe him with his age in parantheses:
2019: $19.5m (31)
2020: $19.5m (32)
2021: $18.5m (33)
2022: $15m (34)*
*The final year of his contract is a club option but becomes fully guaranteed if he is traded.
Right now he is trending downward and unfortunately has shown no signs of improvement. Are we stuck with him indefinitely? It would appear he is untradeable. Even if he starts showing up at the plate, I doubt someone would be willing to take on his contract.
If you're the Mariners GM, how do you handle this?
There is a bright side to the Mariners? When it comes to the Mariners, looking on the bright side is the only thing that retains my sanity.
I'm thinking since they wont move him, we need to have a Seager thread every year so he gets hot when we bitch about him....
I supposed he's sitting at 1.7 WAR in 64 games which translates to around 4.3 for a full year which isnt bad. However as always when he's hot (usually a month) hes good and when he's not (the rest of year) he is pretty poor
What do we do about Kyle Seager?
I know.....keep feeding him Wheaties for breakfast every morning
I've decided to enjoy his hot streak while it lasts. We all know his record of hitting a hot streak and then back to whiffing when we need the clutch hit.
The Little League playoffs are always fun to check in on. Some of those little farts are gonna have a great future in pro ball.
Will someone please order another couple cases of Wheaties for Kyle? The dude has hit his sweet spot offensively. It has lasted longer than I had though it would. Fun to see him hitting and showing off his power.
In typical Mariners fashion, while he sky rockets up Vogelbach and Santana plummet to the earth. I guess that is baseball...at least mariners baseball.
Santana suffered that elbow injury or whatever and that could be part of the reason for his struggles.
I think the issue with Vogelbach is that he can't hit lefties and that maybe the league is starting to figure him out a bit.
