I don’t disagree about our offensive line being a major problem. I am just done with the “fix one issue and we will be a SB contender year 1” argument that has been happening for 7 years. We aren’t close. We have a lot to work on.

I definitely do not consider us one fix away from being a super bowl contender. And with changes on defense (new DC, etc) I certainly recognize we may not have as good a defense this year as we did last year. What I'm saying is I expect even with the changes for this defense to be in serviceable condition.

Meanwhile the 2022 offense was the worst offense the NFL has seen in a couple decades. The priority has got to be getting the offense from dead last to mediocre. A top third defense and a mediocre offense may help this team reach a respectable finish in 2023. Top third in both could make this team a playoff contender but expecting that certainly feels like a stretch at this point.

Slow to hire and quick to fire says Sean Payton - I hope interviewing Rex Ryan was a professional curtesy and not the joke I saw it as.

He has trashed RW over and over that would be weird to hire him.

Maybe that’s what Payton is going for, someone who will challenge Russ.

I mean if Rex Ryan truly knows all the things Wilson does wrong and he can get the defense to point that out, if Russ practices against it every week he may learn how to overcome those problems.

Vance Joseph may be next in line to interview for our DC job.

Hiring Rex Ryan - 7 years away from the sidelines - unsettles me, but in theory it suggests that Sean Payton thinks a blitz package expert fits with the Broncos ability to cover man to man and necessary to blunt the QBs in the western division.

Match made in heaven for PS2 imo. In reality Mathis too. While I have concerns it would bring a tude back to Denver something we have lacked in recent years. Attitude from the coaches not just flat standard coach speak.

I can’t say he excites me. Weren’t cardinals bad on defense? Were his broncos defenses any good?
100% on VJ flat line hire weird too even though org is different the fans aren't

I'm really hopeful they pass on Joesph. He installed a culture of losing in Denver and the Broncos have not been able to overcome it since. If the defenses he's led since had been consistently top 10 I'd be okay with it, but he fields a mediocre defense at best. Maybe they've just lacked the talent and he could get more out of this roster, but I am not willing to risk it.

It definitely seems Payton isn't all that concerned about getting the band put together. It isn't concerning to me yet, but I'd sure like to see this staff round out!

Vance has never had good defenses. I don't know why he was and still is a popular coaching candidate even at the coordinator level.

Coach Sean Payton is a gasser:

Prior to being hired by the Broncos Sean Payton was supposedly putting together his coaching staff for his next HC job (Fangio would be his DC)

Recently he said he "learned not to be in a hurry hiring assistant coaches" because he learned from his mistakes when he became the Saints HC in 2006. But that crappy - hurricane blown Saints team - made the NFC championship game in season one.

Now the mantra is - slow to hire -quick to fire. I can't make sense out of it.
