This is going to be an interesting game. Many points have already been made. This one feels like a game the Broncos are set up to win, but the last 2 years we have lost these types of games.
Hill and Kelce are the 2 guys that can change the game for the Chiefs. Mahomes can be great but it helps if you can’t keep Hill and Kelce from making big plays.
It’s definitely not a sore win. I have my ideas of what I think will happen but until it does we don’t know. The ground game has been effective against way better defenses so that gives me hope the offense will break out instead of that woeful Chiefs defense having a better than average night of their own.
I also like how this game sets the team up for the remainder of the season. Win and they have somehow wedged themselves into the discussion to compete for the division. At 3-4 and admittedly with a pretty tough slate remaining this team will have shown some astounding resiliency after a 0-4 start and it would be hard to see them reaching the bye week worse than 4-5.
But even if they don’t win we are back to square one: most of us expected a transitional season. 8-8 type team. At 2-5 the team will still have shown some resiliency but we will have to admit there is still a lot of work to do.
To that end, the offense has a young crop of talent coming up through the ranks and if the team is out of contention they may be willing to give the reigns to Lock to see what we have and get him some no pressure exposure.
I hope they win. Then I hope they blast the Colts and Browns and reach 5-4. But if they don’t this isn’t the end of the world. The team looks like it has direction for the future. We may not see it in 2019 but this team has shown signs of being a tough out going forward.
I was watching NFL Network this morning and Nate Burlson said that teams that have had success against KC have been playing man and dropping other guys into coverage to help and fill holes. The Chiefs offensive line has been giving up pressure with only 4 rushers.
I am not sure that playing man coverage is a strength at this point. We will see how things go.
I also saw where a member of the KC media believes that they will make a more consented effort to run the ball.
I thought I would share as I found these things interesting.
Unless we completely change Offensive lines at halftime I doubt we come back to win this game. Even with Mahomes out unless we treat Matt Moore like Marcus Mariota it doesn’t look good.
Everyone pretty much wrote this off as a loss anyways so with Denver having 10 days to prepare for Indy if this team comes out as uninspired on both sides of the call as they have tonight something has to change.
Bench Bolles, give all our rookies more playing time, anything, because if we lose to Indy and fall to 2-6 it’s time for Lock the rest of the way.
^ I’m not willing to write Scangarello off just yet. It’s year one of this project and the offense wasn’t exactly top flight when he took over. I wasn’t sure what to expect and this is definitely a letdown but it’s too early to write off a first year coordinator. ESP when his QB hasn’t even started playing yet.
