If the season ended today the Vikes would be drafting in the #11 spot.

Most seasons if we were in this position I would be cheering for us to lose out the rest of the way and improve our draft slot. But this season I actually want to see a couple of W's down the stretch simply because it will likely mean that Teddy's played well down the stretch and his development is way more important than 5-10 draft slots in this first round.

I dont think anyone in the world, Greenway included, thinks he will make 7 mil next year. So if that is your whole rant on him, you can stop now...

Gordon isn't Peterson's crazy combination of speed and power. But he is a DAMN fine RB prospect.

I don't want them to go that route but I can think of a lot worse scenarios......like cutting Peterson and thinking we can do RB on the cheap with McKinnon, Asiata and Tate. That would be a recipe for disaster. This OL has its problems but run blocking isn't one of them. Our run game wont improve with this same RB crew and a different OL from FA pick ups.

YOU'RE CRAZY! They average the exact same rushing stats as they did a year ago... with AP. Our rush game doesn't need much improvement. The pass game does.... as does pass blocking. Fix the passing game... get more first downs... and better control of the clock.

If you think our running game is fine the way it is, you are crazy.

The run game sets up the passing game in the NFL. You have to do that unless you have an elite NFL QB.

We have went from scoring 24 points a game the last two year previous with a poor passing game to scoring 20 points a game with Bridgewater. And Teddy for the most part has played better than Ponder/Cassel had in the previous two seasons. The difference is that Teddy doesn't have the benefit of defenses focused in on the run game like we have had previous seasons because no one respects our run game.

Teddy has looked solid but anyone waiting for him to turn into Drew Brees/Manning/Brady/Rodger ect and take this offense to the elite level is fooling themselves. We are going to have to win with defense and an efficient ball control offense. And for that to happen you can't have the RB corp that we have now. No one respects it enough to walk 8 into the box or to bite on playaction. The only thing that could change that would be for McKinnon to take a GIANT leap forward and this is possible....but its also not likely.

Peterson is one of the few players in the league that makes his QB and the offensive players around him tangibly better. If you don't think that, you flat out haven't been paying attention. We were an average offense the last two season before this with some of the worst QB play in the league simply because of #28 and nothing else.

They havent run the ball as much this year as last. But they average 4.5 yards per carry. Last year, 4.9 yards per carry.

15 million for less than a half yard per carry when that 15 mil could bring in better O linemen that could very well exceed that .4 yards, AND improve the passing game?

Thats a no brainer. Bye AD.

I would gladly give up half a yard avg., because as Ducky stated, defenses would stack the box, therefore taking the top off the defense. That means man coverage with no safety help. That would make the offensive line look pretty damn good in itself.

What good is it to have the backside open when the O line cant hold long enough to get a receiver out there?

Our running game is definitely not fine. The things that would open up for Teddy with a RB that the defense had to key in on would be fantastic.

Our "running game" isnt going to do shit as long as the O line cant pass block. I THINK thats been proven over the past 5 years, dont you?

Uhh no? The O line is a mess this year yes...but AP just came near a record breaking year a couple years ago. That was not due to the difference in O line's lol.

You are completely missing the point of what we are saying and it really isn't very hard. With a GOOD running back teams have to game plan for the run. They will stack the box. EVERYTHING opens up for the quarterback downfield when the other team has a running back to game plan for. We do not have that at this time. Sorry, but teams are not thinking must. stop. asiata.

Since Hutch left (and Birk the year before that)... In other words, since we stopped having an O line that can PASS BLOCK the Vikings have gone 6-10, 3-13, 10-6, 5-10, and 6-7 so far this year.

I dont care WHO you got in the backfield (*cough* Barry Sanders *cough*), without an OFFENSIVE LINE, you are going NO WHERE as a team.

I think its YOU that is missing the point.

In '09 (the Vikings last "real" successful year) 5 of the Vikings 6 offensive linemen (counting the TE as a lineman) were 3rd round picks or better. Hutch and McKinney 1st round, Loadholt and Jimmy K were 2nd rounders.

Right now, of our "starters" (the ones at the start of the year, not the fingers in the dike they got right now) has 3. Loadholt, Kalil, and Rudy. Kalil hasnt done shit in 2 years, and Rudy has been "hurt" the past 2 years. The rest (Johnson, Sully, and Fusco) are all 6th round picks.

Now are you beginning to see the "real" problem with the Vikings offense?

HAHAHA you are fucking ridiculous. And no, it is you that is missing the point that numerous posters have stated. Our oline has been the reason we haven't been really good since 09? Laughable. Yup with a great O line Ponder is Superbowl MVP!!! Probably Cassel too!!! AP runs for 4,000 forget just passing Dickerson.

Are you serious with this? Or just trolling?

The online is shit right now and needs fixing. But we have NO RUNNING GAME FOR TEAMS TO PREPARE FOR. It's like 3rd grade knowledge dude. Ask anyone with a brain what the difference of AP vs a collection of Asiata/McKinnon/Banyard/Tate is.

Newsflash. Everyone will say it is astronomical. Teams now plan to stop Teddy and the passing game. Before it was AP in the running game.

Unbelievable you can't grasp this.

With a good O line, I could be a super bowl winning QB. Kinda like:

Len Dawson, Jim Plunkett, Jim McMahon, Doug Williams, Jeff Hostetler, Mark Rypien, and *ta da* Brad Johnson...

Sorry, but youre .... Welcome to ignore. Youre not worth the effort.

Typical. Can't rational talked about the needs of your own team and you resort to ignore.

What is a message board for? Pathetic.

Dude.... I don't have anything against you personally, but mr.hockey is right, a lot of your posts are pretty far out there. First you downplayed the significance of Winfield even when he was renewed in '09 and playing pretty damn good football still, now you downplay what a massive difference AP made to this offense over the years? I would agree that our O-line sucks, and has been among the most overrated in the entire league for as long as AP made them look better, but come on. This team needs a legit starting RB as well as better linemen.

Yup, obviously the o line needs some massive work as well but to state it is the only thing holding this team back over the last 5 years is f'ing insane. I just don't get where he comes up with that.

Biggest things holding us back most of the past 5 years have been,

1) Terrible QB play. Bridgewater has been by far and away our best since Favre, and he hasn't been lights out by any means. One can only wonder how much easier life for rookie Teddy would have been with AP around.

2) A shitty defense. For once, it finally looks promising going forward under Zimmer.

But make no mistake, this team needs to either draft an RB fairly early on in the draft, sign an FA, or retain AP for next year. Asiata and McKinnon are both far too one-dimensional, with Asiata being a below average power runner, and McKinnon a below average speed back. Even if you put all of the best traits of both into one whole RB, they wouldn't come anywhere near mimicking what AP brought to this team. Now, barring a return of AP, we can in no way expect AP level results at RB, but we do need to get better than what we have now.

What the fuck are you talking about?

Winfield? Number 26 yes? I had ALWAYS said they should have kept him 1 more year, if for no other reason than for leadership. Got no idea where you came up with that.

I never "downplayed" what AP was to this offense. Operative word there being WAS. What I said, if you had bothered to READ it, was that the TEAM was going no where without a pass blocking O line, which they havent had since 09. This team, without a pass-blocking O line, has had 1 winning season in the past 5 years. Thats a fact that you cant deny.

Now, I DID say that AD isnt worth 15 mil compared to what other RBs in this league make, and what we could get for that 15 mil. Not to mention the fact that AD has only 1 season thus far where he started every game. ONE. And he will be 31 next year. And you think he is worth 15 million? I personally dont believe that any 1 player on ANY team in the NFL is worth 10% of their salary cap. Even Manning.

I also said I doubt the Vikings will be willing to pay him that next year. I'll take bets on that.

I also said I doubt AD would be willing to take a pay cut. At least not before June 1st.

If AD wont renegotiate his deal before June 1st, the Vikings would have to either pay him that 15 mil, which they wont, or they will have to waive him, which is exactly what I think AD wants. He wants to go play in Texas. Expect him to have a star on his helmet next year.
