It makes sense for both teams, even if this trade has a snowball's chance in hell of ever happening.

As I am one of the very few that sees Lincecum's future as more of a closer than starter, and, as we have young Kenley Jansen to hold that role for a bit, it does not fit for me.

I'm in the large group that sees "closer" roles as arbitrary and I also see Lincecum as an effective reliever. That's actually what I'd want from him on the Dodgers. He'd be a very versatile spot starter or multi-inning reliever for the pennant chase.

Just because you already have a "closer," that doesn't mean you can't upgrade the relievers who are coming in to pitch in all of the other innings. Also, your "closer" can't pitch every day unless you want him to kill his arm.

Lincecum would be a massive upgrade over Marmol/Dominguez. He's also better than Capuano if you still need a 5th starter.

Fat chance but I have nothing against it, didn't the Giants win the title with Lincecum coming out of the pen?

If the price is right.

How are you all feeling now that you've got Brian Wilson?

Lincecum is too inconsistent. Wilson is injury prone, is ugly, and is a Giant through and through. There are no Giants players today I would want. They can all stay 10+ games back where they belong.

Something tells me all Giants fans are wearing shit-eating grins today. They must be laughing their asses off at the Dodgers right now!

I figure if Wilson was still any good the Giants would have taken him back, which is where he belongs. The Giants should be laughing since they probably realize just how idiotic Ned can be.

Beyond that, the Giants don't have much to laugh about considering they are crawling along in last place.

I liked the idea of Timmy as a reliever and I knew the Dodgers were going to add a righty reliever. Now that they added Wilson, it would only make sense to add Lincecum to be a starter and I don't want that.

That being said, I'd rather have a cheap trade for Lincecum (that would never happen) than an expensive trade for Peavy (seems likely given the rumors).

If you go to the SFG forum, they don't really like it.

They wanted to (the Giants). Wilson chose LA over SF because he wanted to play for a contender. This short deal gives him a chance to audition for a bigger contract in the winter with likely playoff exposure. It was the smart move for Wilson from a business and baseball perspective.

Like I said in the other thread, if he comes in to play and he sucks, the Dodgers can just DFA him. He doesn't really affect the roster negatively by being in the bullpen in September since the team will have a bunch of call-ups in there with the expanded rosters.

Signing Wilson is smarter than trading prospects for a different guy who'll be about the same quality.

Who gives a rats ass that the Gnats are laughing because we sign Wilson. Who's out of first place by 10 games. Nuff said.

Speaking for myself, I was a little stung, but then remembered that no Giant that went on to be a Dodger ever really made a difference. (But what is Colletti's obsession with former Giants?) According to some sources, Giants didn't even make him an offer, so the FO must not want him that bad. Plus, he loves the spotlight that LA can provide... much larger stage than us weirdos have. But I hope he's prepared to stand in line behind Puig, Kemp, Kershaw, Greinke, etc. Might be a little hard on his oversized ego to know he's a little fish in a much bigger pond.
I appreciate his help getting the ring and hope he does well.

Just not too well ;)

If he is healthy he will be a nice addition to the bullpen... but we are going to have to shave that beard.

If he shaves his beard , he'll look better and we won't think of him as a Gnat thru and thru. He'll be clean shaven and in a clean uniform. I'm against trading for Linicum.

First LA and SF will never trade with each other. Two I would only want Timmy if he agreed to go in the pen as he would be a filthy reliever. Look at last years playoffs.

Pretty much this

I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I highly doubt it'd happen

Lincecum would be nice coming out of the pen as his stuff is filthy but I think he goes to Seattle in the offseason. He wants to start and we dont have a spot for him here.

One ex-Giant on the pitching staff is enough.
