Hmmm...it says he has the potential to be a top for dman. We have lots of those already. He would still be an upgrade but ultimately won't be the answer. I guess we could try and get a guy like that and go after the #1 dman in the draft.

we have a gaggle of defensive top 4 dmen (schenn, grossmann, mesz, coburn for a shift or two a week).. we need someone that can move the puck and play some offense.. when timonen leaves the d-corp might have a 6% completed pass percentage amongst them

cole isn't my ideal choice, but i think he's probably the best that could be had from the teams that want briere

Why keep Lavy? Either he and his system has to go OR we need a whole new team with players that match his system.

Keep Lavy for this season, and find a replacement in the summer. This team isn't doing anything this year

IMO if lavy doesn't get fired today, he'll be the coach in the fall. i say that because if you're going to try to make a push this season you have to fire the coach, and the flyers are basically gifted that opportunity with 5 days off here. fire him today, let the new guy (presumably murray) get what amounts to another training camp (this season), to get them going.. plus guys like schenn and couturier played his system earlier in the season in the A

if he's not fired today, the flyers have decided they're sellers this season but they still like him as the coach and want to move forward with him

the team has off until thursday, so theoretically homer probably has tomorrow to make that decision too.

mm, didnt realize they were taking some days off.. touche

i understand days off to rest, but they haven't exactly been strained the past week or so compared to the rest of the year.. they could use the practice IMO.....

if the flyers trade matt read for jay bouwmeester, you guys might be able to hear my rage all the way in philly.

i'm just saying.

ha what you dont like him?

that seems like the wrong move, matt read is a piece of the team that you don't trade because he is dollar for dollar your most productive player.

agreed. he's even got giroux beat in that category IMO.

plus, i gotta say, i think read is the only player i'm happy to see hit the ice, regardless of position, situation, or line.

i actually think it would be interesting to see if he could be a puck moving / offensive dman. in a season like this, why not experiment? he plays the point on the PP, he's sound defensively, blazing wheels, a good shot, decent passer. who knows? :noidea:

as much as i love matt read, i think it's unrealistic to believe we can keep him beyond next year. once giroux, schenn and couturier get paid its unlikely we have the cap room. matt read is going to be like a ville leino in my opinion. some team is going to offer him really big money because they can. out of all of our young assets, i think i put read as the guy i'm most willing to part with. i think schenn and cout's upside is higher and lots of teams covet matt read. i'd be willing to part with read for the sake of getting a good puck moving defenseman in here.

I actually disagree. The fact that he's a winger helps him out. We have a logjam at the center position. Giroux, Briere, Schenn, Cooter, Laughton, Cousins. Some thing's gotta give there.
