i could see him fetching a 1st. if kyle quincey can net a 1st + (from ken holland, who is a great GM), then mesz can get a 1st from someone..

they might balk at his injury prone-ness though.

Yikes, if Mez can get a first then what can our other dmen get?

see that's why i think lavy should be replaced. i seriously think any one of the flyers top 5 dmen could get a 1st round pick (+) in return. the flyers have 5 guys that are solid defensively and and one of those is solid on defense AND offense (timonen). the team isn't succeeding because the dmen are not the fleetest of foot and they're being hung out to dry by an all out attack from the forwards. that and they're asked to trigger the attack, which they aren't the best at.

the flyers defense doesn't suck. the flyers defense sucks at playing the way laviolette wants to play.

bob kelly when asked why the flyers have so much trouble defensively told sarah baicker "you can't run a system made for thoroughbreds, when you have a d corps of clydesdales"

see but that is the biggest problem. because now we have a team (at least the d) designed for a system that is not the coaches. that falls on homer. I know that at this point though it would be much easier, and probably succesful for the flyers to switch to a defensive coach like Murray. but why was there such a disconnect between the GM and the coach?

our dmen are good in the right system, thats why at the trade deadline I expect 1 or 2 (possibly 3?) of them to be moved since it looks like the flyers want to keep lavy as the coach.

well i think they underestimated carle's value and overdid expectations for coburn. i think they expected coburn to be able to replace carle in terms of breakouts, and he hasn't done that. i also think they expected mesz to be at least two-pane glass instead of just glass. he's a decent passer when he's on his game. plus gus being mediocre-to-bad instead of being a potential carle replacement didnt help

not letting homer completely off the hook, because he probably should've had someone better than gervais as a plan B, but shit happens.

a lot of people want to blame homer, but i actually think he's done a real good job. he cant figure out goalie contracts to save his life and i, personally, hate the pronger trade, but aside from that i think he's been pretty spot on

Plus, Homer did try to go after Suter and Weber. He went for the homerun but unfortunately wasn't successful.

Maxime Talbot…

The Flyers are willing to part with Max Talbot and a number of teams are apparently kicking tires here. Several sources suggest St. Louis is one of them.

Talbot is a proven playoff performer who can play center or wing. When acquiring a player like this you don’t wonder if he can fill a role because he’s already done it.

He has three years left on his deal after this year with his salary going down each season. Talbot brings a $1.750 cap hit.

I dont really have an interest in trading Talbot just for the sake of trading him, but I do like the selling mentality.

If gaustad can get a first, talbot can get at least a first. I'm all for it.

With Laughton making the jump next year, it would certainly work out.

I think if we could get rid of Talbot do so. He doesnt bring much to the table except penalty kill and we have players that can do that in his place plus three year contract removed from the books

I agree with Meltzer here. Hold on to him UNLESS some team wants to overpay out the ass for him.
