you answered your own rant.. the flyers needed dmen and it didn't look like they needed wingers.. so they traded an underachieving winger for an underachieving dman.. can you imagine if they didn't trade jvr for schenn? foster, lilja, and gervais would all be in the lineup.. backing up the timonen, coburn, and grossmann as the 'top 3'.. even with JvR's 8 goals the flyers would be getting obliterated every game.. bryz is playing quite well and the flyers are still giving up around 3.5 goals per game

and we've seen this before from jvr.. he's a streaky player.. scoring 8 goals in 13ish games isn't unheard of for him.. until he starts getting 25-30 goals/season i wont judge that half of the trade

and schenn has been close to, if not the, best flyer skater so far this season.. read might have him beat.. but after that?

Even with adding Schenn this team still isn't close to being good enough defensively. What happens when Schenn doesn't have Timonen to play with either. I hope Schenn learns everything from 44 before he's done next year.

Ok I know this looks bad now, well because it is honestly. This team isn't gelling at all and the D we added other then Schenn really aren't that good. The forward group isn't really doing much of anything well game in and game out. Bryz has been our best player really, he's made key saves and aside from last night given us a chance to win every game(I'm not blaming last night solely on him). Giroux is having a hard time adjusting to the constant carousel on his flanks and that problem filters through the team as well.

The thing is in a shortened season without a real training camp and exhibition games things are fucked to start half the time. I'm not panicing though for the following reason. The Flyers desperately need to re-fill the prospect pool so if they are going to have a bad season it's better to have one in a year with a deep draft such as this one. The second part of this is that we do have some chips that could be moved out that would bring back some serious value and honestly we could use a little cap space to try to bring someone else in to help G.

While I would much prefer to win a cup this year and repeat for the next 50, the truth is that they won't be good every year and just like last season the injury bug has been a killer thus far. That said if we're gonna be bad let's be fucking horrible to get a lottery pick:banplease:

oh ya, dont get me wrong the flyers have issues.. but IMO the jvr for schenn trade helped address their biggest issue.. the D isn't where it needs to be with schenn, but it would be in even more trouble without him

It did address a huge hole I'll give u that, but at what cost. This team is shit even with him, and even without the injuries they are a playoff team at best that can maybe win a round or 2 max, they aren't good enough to win a cup right now anyways. I would have kept JVR for at least 1 more year, just because as u stated we saw the streaky potential, and imagine if/when he stays healthy.

The Shenn deal was the right move for the FLyers. Both players needed a change. JVR was injury prone for us.

We really need hos brother to step up. Need Couts to step up.

Being fans of the hockey team in on any available player ever, we sure have not talked about ROR at all.

another pass first "center", i just want a guy that is a little selfish and wants to put the puck in the net, in stead of an 18 goal 37 assist guy, the 30 goal 20 assist guy ha

this.. plus if there's anything the flyers dont need its centers.. giroux, schenn, couturier, briere, and talbot are all centers

come to think of it.. maybe they should try giroux on the wing.. but i guess they need him taking faceoffs since he's been so good lately.. its just schenn/briere are so much less effective as wingers

Question for you guys. Shitty is going on IR for hip surgery. Does this mean we have an additional $1.7 million in cap space to pick up a dman possibly at TD? I'm kind of riding the same boat as some of you for not making a trade for the sake of trading. However, I wouldn't mind picking up some cheaper role players who may help for a push to get into playoffs. Bryzy is having a solid year and if we can get healthy and pickup a role player maybe it's possible to make a run? I just can't figure this team out? One night we look unbeatable and then next night we look like the Isles from the past.

i don't know what they are doing with walker and pronger money, moving that money around will free them up to maybe acquire something at the deadline. i know they look like crap one night and gold the other, but for me i think if they get fully healthy this team can do damage.

just gotta ride this wave and get hartnell and mez back. hartnell will start skating apparently tomorrow so i am looking for him to come back for the penguins game next wednesday. mez is about a week and a half behind so i am looking for him around feb 25th. that gives the team 2 months to gel. sooo if they can tread water here for another 2 weeks i think they will be in a good spot. hell if they could get over .500 before mez comes back i think you really like the chances of this team.

agree w/ all this.. i haven't run any numbers, but they haven't put pronger or walker on LTIR and i know they still have like 1.5 mil in cap space.. i'm pretty sure the flyers can do whatever they want cap-wise come the TD.. combine the banked space so far plus putting at least pronger/walker on ltir gives you a bunch of room.. leighton and shelley is another 2-3 mil.. it'll be assets preventing the flyers from doing something, not cap space IMO

getting hartnell and mesz back should put this team in contention.. i think if someone told us at the beginning of the season that hartnell and mesz would be lost long term, and giroux would be a strictly defensive player, and the flyers would only be 1 point out of the playoffs, we'd all take it

thanks bryz.

Btw if a trade did happen at some point. A couple of guys I wouldn't mind seeing in O and B. Clowe or Murray from SJ. I think they may be on the shit list.

only two not named couture that i'd want from the sharks.. unfortunately they too fit exactly what the flyers dont really need.. physical front of the net type forward.. physical front of the net type dman

honestly i'm really sad they didn't sign semin.. he's been real solid for the canes this year and looks dangerous every time he's on the ice.. little known fact, he's a pretty solid PK'er too.. i'd look his way this summer if the canes dont extend him.. he'd be a good fit with giroux i think

Homer doesn't like Russian wingers? Goaltending different story. Lol. Probably untrue but we know Bob Clarke hated and never wanted any Russian player when he was in charge.

heh ya.. semin's just been good thats all i know.. he's easily stanidng out the most to me in the 3 or 4 canes games ive watched.. i'd really like to pry justin faulk away from them too, he's seems to be pretty good in his own end, a decent nose offensively, and very fast.. really doubt the canes will let him go though
