Lmao JJ I was just about to put the link up. Interesting take by Meltzer. He's spot on. The Flyers will do something small IMO.

Yeah, I like him because he is realistic. Fans like to come up with trade scenarios where we trade our role players for other teams star player and that just isn't going to happen.

I'd make a horrible GM. I tend to fall into this category. I tend to hit the panic often and after a losing streak. See my posts from the Leafs game. I should just relax and just let Homer do his job and accept that he knows his job better than we do.

honestly, i dont even think doing something small is worth it.. keep the draft pick(s).. something small doesn't do enough to make this team a cup contender if it's not already (which it might be w/ hartnell and mesz), so IMO it's pointless

I'm sure he'll do something. Last year acquiring Grossmann didn't seem earth shattering but in the end it was very helpful. Let's see if Homer can make some similar moves.

they gave up a 2nd and 3rd for him though.. so that was a pretty sizable trade IMO

I agree. That's nothing to sneeze, but I think Homer will evaluate where we stand and go from there. If he thinks this team needs some help I think that he will pull the trigger. Whether that's ultimately the right call or not, I don't know. Based on how the Flyers operate though I think a move will be made.

Besides draft picks who in this organization is expendable?

Well, I guess I can't answer that until I knew who we would get in return.

Based on Homer's MO I think he would give up some picks.

nick cousins would be expendable in my opinion, we have 3 centers (giroux, schenn, couterier) whom i think should be the 3 for the next 5 years minimum. i guess that makes laughton expendable too, but i like him and wouldnt mind keeping him in the system. problem is cousins has those pending charges that could be a major issue.

From Tim P:

"And I don't believe GM Paul Holmgren for a second when he says he's not alarmed about the lack of offense or ready to pull the trigger on a deal.

He's been trying for weeks to make a trade but every discussion begins and ends with, "If Couturier is not on the table, we have nothing to talk about."

If that's really true then I'm assuming Homer is inquiring about some big time players and isn't just looking to add some depth.

I don't think any one really has a clue.

even before the pending sexual assault charges i dont think cousins was really all that valuable.. he seems valuable in the flyers system because he has very little competition, but from everything i've read, if he turns in to an agitating 3rd line center, he'll be considered a success. so there's not a ton of value there. laughton's ceiling is a little higher because he has a little more offensive upside and hits a little harder, but even he isn't a super high-value prospect i dont think.

thats why i just dont see the point in making a trade. the flyers don't have the bullets to make a trade that will have a big impact, aside from draft picks.. the 1st and 2nd round picks this year are probalby more valuable then cousins or laughton at this point. and do you really want to get rid of those just to be a little more competitive? if the flyers were top 3 in the conference right now, sure you can justify destroying the prospect pool to make a run, but as it stands, i just dont think it's smart

not saying homer wont make a move, but IMO, unless the guy is under 25 with a good upside and still has a few more years on his contract, it would be foolish to make a trade. and the flyers don't have enough value to get that type of player unless they trade couturier, which would be dumb.

this. and not only is he such a pessimist, but he's an idiot too. he wrote an article about how the flyers HAD to trade for iginla. HAD to. so trade away a good prospect and your first round pick for 6 months of a 35 yr old that will help you win a playoff round or 2, but definitely doesn't make you a cup favorite, or even a contender.

only reason i follow him on twitter is because he usually gives updates from practice and on injuries. his articles and opions are worthless

and he would be the first guy to write an article next year about why the flyers are in such bad shape prospect wise.

Haha that's funny. On twitter I always tell him that he must really hate the Flyers and really hate his job.

exactly. he'd call homer out for not planning for the future cap-wise or prospect wise, even though he was the one calling to botch both. he's a hack. honestly, carchidi isn't much better. it's a good thing the flyers have meltzer, the rest of their writers are pretty weak.
