Subban really doesn't impress me. He might have a lot of potential but so far he hasn't impressed me.

Defensively he'd probably be our 4th best dman, maybe 5th. He's be our best offensive dman sure, and the flyers miss that, but he's not worth what he'd get in a trade, and anything north of 4.5 mil is way overpaying him.

Hey boys! Long time no hear. Life has been very busy and my time here will be limited. How is everyone? Sorry back on topic, we need a stud dman badly. I'm good with Subban unless Cooter is involved in trade.

:agree: count me in too. He's just not solid enough in his own end so IMO its not worth the risk/reward. Could they use a stud absolutely but they'll have to find a guy at the deadline probably an older vet unless guys like Gervais continue to impress.

Well boys we can put the PK Subban rumors to bed. The Habs just resigned him for 2 years at 5.5 or something like that million. Next?

good news IMO

phil kessel?

i would definitely be intrigued.. he can be the shooter i think the flyers need

not sure what the leafs would want from the flyers though.. and to be honest, i'm not sure why they'd want to trade him in the first place (despite the rumors saying they're contemplating it)

i was kinda hoping Benn wouldn't get resigned.. so far newuendyk (sp?) has been an idiot on the trade market

i keep hearing the new gm wants to do things the "right way" and they need to cut ties with the bad Burke acquisitions. Also he is not happy in Toronto (apparently, or at least what the media says) because he is constantly compared to Seguin. My opinion is that the Flyers are a good trading partner with the leafs if they want to build through the draft. We are really young already, we can afford to part ways with a first round pick or two. Kessel would be a great compliment for Giroux on the top line. Salary cap wise don't know how we could even make it work, BUT it seems to always work out.

i really dont want the flyers to keep moving draft picks.. to win a cup you have to have guys on entry level deals performing way above them.. you can only have so many expensive free agent or trade aquisitions and i dont think its enough to be competitive.. you gotta have some home grown guys on cheap contracts

this draft is also supposed to be the deepest since 03 when 22 all-stars were drafted

i get that but you need a wing player for giroux, even if hartnell is here i don't think he is the guy, he is the banger on that line. if bobby ryan was available i would move for him as well. the guys are similar in production and salary. we really havent acquired any large contracts in a long time. in fact we have been going the other way. as far as saying that you HAVE to have overperforming players, please see LA Kings stanley cup champions who are filled with inflated contracts.

jonathan quick, probably the most important factor in them winning the cup, was a 1.8 cap hit last year.. and they accumulated that roster because they had the prospects to trade.. brayden schenn, wayne simmonds, jack johnson.. they all had enormous value because they had some experience and were relatively cheap and most of their bottom 6 was home-grown talent for under 1.5 mil.. guys like richardson, clifford, fraser, king, and lewis..

most people think the flyers problem is on D, where they have

timonen-traded (6.7 mil)
coburn-traded (4.5)
grossmann-traded (3.5)
schenn-traded (3.6)
meszaros-traded (4)
gustafsson-drafted (1ish)

when healthy.. they have over 20 mil tied up in a defense that nobody is happy with.. they need to get better, and somehow spend less.. only way to do that is with draft picks IMO

up front it looks better beause you have guys like mcginn, couturier, wellwood, laughton in the pipe, and rinaldo that can come in and play a roll.. but when that G deal expires, the flyers could be in a whole world of hurt

i get that G needs a winger.. and i agree that while hartnell had a fantastic year last year, he's probably not the answer.. but you cant just trade away draft picks and prospects like the flyers have.. the pronger trade is still murdering their prospect pool.. what do the flyers even give up to get a guy like kessel? laughton and a 1st? is that even enough? and after you trade that, when can the flyers ever get better? gostisbehere would be the last prospect the flyers have, and no first rounder.. kessel (or whoever) better be the last piece to winning the cup if that's the route you wanna go.. because you're out of legitimate trade pieces for multiple years after that

the pronger situation is killing the flyers cap wise. still not sure how nashville thinks they can afford weber but hey thats in the past. timonen our highest paid dman will not be resigned. and when healthy i am not so upset with what we have going into next year:

schenn, mesz, coburn, grossman are all solid but the problem is we are never healthy on that end. on this i agree, BUT you said the draft was deep and the flyers could chance to grab a dman later by trading down and making a move.

long story short, i am not buying a jersey until after the trade deadline this year haha.

lol, probably wise.. but i really don't think this is the year for the flyers to be buyers.. based on 6 games and the fact that they weren't good enough last year, with, what i think was a stronger team (barring the growth we expected to see from couturier and schenn, but haven't yet).. the flyers got a lot from breakout seasons (talbot, read, simmonds, voracek) that, especially in talbot's case, can't be relied on

if they don't suck by the trade deadline, i think they should just stand pat.. if they do suck, timonen and briere will have pretty good value i think, and i think they will waive their NMC to compete for a cup

fortunately or unfortunately, i dont see the flyers being sellers, which based on homer's tenure, means they'll be buyers and we'll be flying by the seat of our pants again haha

the weber deal for nashville really isn't that bad hockey wise.. 7.8 for the best dman in the game is a fair number.. the key is, they didn't have to give up 2 firsts, a second, last years 1st round pick, and a top 6 forward, just to sign him.. it'll be a long time before the flyers prospect pool recovers from getting pronger, especially based on homer's track record

What were the picks we gave up for Pronger and who they turn out to be

2009 1st (John Moore)
2010 1st (Emerson Etem)

Player Bio - John Moore

he was supposedly the target to accompany the 7th overall pick for the jeff carter trade, not voracek.. bjs traded a 1st and 2nd to move up to take him

Player Bio - Emerson Etem

so.. essentially the prospect versions of giroux's scoring winger and the PP qb we're missing :(

... plus sbisa and lupul :L

... but hey, at least we got ryan dingle too! :L:L

Looks like Etem is making his NHL debut tonight but these guys dont seem like we could never recover from not having them and since we went to a cup with pronger already i think your hatred for pronger is peeking through again.
