Homer did exactly what was needed and didn't over pay in a ridiculously high market.

Grade B+

Yep dead on he could have fired off a bunch of 1st rd picks but kept them intact which is cool. Hopefully they can find some stud dmen in the next few drafts and they'll be good for years to come.

I guess we'll bust out the trade rumors thread. What do you guys think about Subban? Word is it would take Coots in order for Flyers to get him. I would NEVER do that deal. With that said, if you were Homer who could they plausibly give up to get Subban? Who would MTL accept?

LOL If MTL is starting off with Coots as the starting point then there is no way they take Gusty and a pick. I'm thinking we'd have to start with at least Schenn and a prospect/pick at least.

We are going to have to get a #1 defenseman eventually.

I agree. I'm not so sure Subban is that 1A dman though. I'd still take him though if the price was right.

We wouldn't part w/ Cooter for Shea Weber so there is no way Homer lets him go for Subban.

I appear to be gaining a slight reputation on the main board for my Subban love, so I may be a bit biased. I do think he is a top pair defenseman, and he is only 23. He is exactly what we need going forward.

I do not want to trade Couturier, and I dont think Homer does either. That being said, in a vacuum that is perfectly fair value.

i don't know what exactly makes him a top pair dman, i like how he hits but there are a lot of holes in his game still and he is a head case.

I am just very high on him, and he has one quality in particular that this team is missing quite badly. PK can QB a PP (say that 5 times fast :D), and would instantly be the best dman on our team.

I do not get the head case part. Because he is cocky, or because he is holding out for money?

all i have read abou thim is that he s not well liked by those in his team. usually guys can be pricks and their own team like them, but no one likes this guy.

Well I have never heard anything like that. Even if he is, Subban is still a real talented defenseman that we need

I read this last year. The article was something about him fighting more in practice than in games.

If I were Homer I'd only trade for Subban if we could talk to his agent first and see what he's actually looking for. If it was reasonable i would tell MTL our untouchables are Giroux, Schenn, Couturier & see what they say. If we got past those 2 things I think I'd offer Grossman & Read for Subban & a 3rd. I think this kind of trade might be suitable. On our end we need to extend Giroux, Schen & Cooter which leave little money to -re-sign Read and if we brought Subban in we'd need to clear additional salary. I'm not sure if MTL would go for that trade but I feel it's fair value.

All that said I'm not sure I want Subban, but I figured I'd throw my opinion out there.

I don't hold Coots up even half as high as most do, but I wouldn't trade him for some assbag headcase.

My .02.

An assbag....maybe. Both? No.

That trade is robbery by Montreal.

Thinking about it now I'd rather just offer sheet him & move people later in order to get another 1st round or move up in the draft. I'd throw a 6 yr $31.5m ($5.25m a yr offer) at him. We'd actually be fine on cap next year and if they were able to re-sign Timonen for around $5m a year for 2 yrs(maybe get a better discount if he wants to keep playing) we'd look like this on the roster...

CAPGEEK.COM USER GENERATED ROSTER
My Custom Lineup
FORWARDS
Scott Hartnell ($4.750m) / Claude Giroux ($3.750m) / Jakub Voracek ($4.250m)
Brayden Schenn ($3.110m) / Danny Briere ($6.500m) / Wayne Simmonds ($3.975m)
Tye McGinn ($0.775m) / Sean Couturier ($1.375m) / Matt Read ($0.900m)
Maxime Talbot ($1.750m) / Scott Laughton ($1.138m) / Zac Rinaldo ($0.650m)
Tom Sestito ($0.666m) /
DEFENSEMEN
Kimmo Timonen ($4.250m) / Luke Schenn ($3.600m)
P.K Subban ($5.500m) / Braydon Coburn ($4.500m)
Nicklas Grossmann ($3.500m) / Andrej Meszaros ($4.000m)
Marc-Andre Bourdon ($0.613m) / Bruno Gervais ($0.825m)
GOALTENDERS
Ilya Bryzgalov ($5.667m)
Michael Leighton ($0.900m)
BUYOUTS
Oskars Bartulis ($0.100m)
------
CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $64,029,667; BONUSES: $3,012,500
CAP SPACE (23-man roster): $3,282,833

I think McGinn & Laughton give us a little more flexibility for a very reasonable cap hit. Also I realize this is overly optimistic and if we offer sheet Subban it will most likely be matched, but at least then it ties up MTL cap.
