If someone started one, I missed it. I know most trades have been completed already, but what the heck.

I could see them moving Santana if the deal is right. He's a free agent in 2021 - realistically our best chance at "contending" - his defense has been abysmal and they probably like Vogelbach at DH despite his serious struggles against lefties.

If you're looking toward 2021, I'm comfortable with Mallex Smith and Mitch Haniger being starters. You also have to take into consideration that per MLBPipeline, three of our top 8 prospects are outfielders. Jake Fraley (#8 overall) has been destroying the minors and could get a look this year, Jarred Kelenic (#1 overall) looks like he could be ready as early as late 2020 and Julio Rodriguez (#2 overall) could be here by 2022 depending on his development. Kyle Lewis and Braden Bishop are also guys who could make a push.

I do think a good hitting outfielder who is cheap, young and controllable should warrant at least a top 100 prospect in return though. He's our best trade chip if you exclude the other obvious guys we wouldn't trade.

I don’t get it, so the Mets are trading to win now but also offering Diaz in a deal? Or did I read that wrong.

No, that is also the question ESPN's Olney asked earlier today. Of course body understands the new GM's madness either.

Mets GM has a little Pat Gilick in him “ farm system he’ll trade everyone and win now” approach

I can't recall the article but I think it was FanGraphs that did an analysis regarding prospects traded in general and they seem to have a substantially lower success rate than those who stay in the same organization.

I believe they attributed it to the fact that the franchise trading the prospect has a substantially better evaluation of him than an outside organization would have. Meaning a prospect traded may have some sort of flaw(s) that was identified by the team and they were willing to trade him due to inflated evaluations that others may not be aware of.

Interesting. I am guessing the Mariners are the exception to this rule...lol.

“They don’t have many players that teams want,” a source with an American League team said of the players Seattle is looking to trade.

----------------------------

They’ve been trying to trade right-hander Mike Leake for the past two months after a proposed trade with the Diamondbacks that was scuttled by Mariners ownership. - No wonder Leake is pissed at M's.

----------------------------

That injury issue might be prohibitive when it comes to the Rays. Multiple sources have indicated they may have cooled on acquiring Santana.

----------------------------

Seattle was looking to trade second baseman Dee Gordon. But a quad strain that landed Gordon on the injured list may have ended that possibility. Gordon is eligible to return from the IL on Aug. 1. But given his salary — he’s owed $14 million next season — and the nature of the injury, the Mariners may have to wait until the offseason to move Gordon.

The Mariners can still trade Leake and Gordon (even on the DL, I will never call it the IL) neither are going to fetch a prospect worth a damn ranking wise, it just depends on how much they are willing to eat. The Mariners traded for that reliever from the Braves who won’t throw a pitch for them. Like Smyly except we traded Smith for him then traded for Smith back.
