Nice to see the catcher voters join forces with Bench (I'm one of those, switched from Berra, they are 1a and 1b to me)

Maybe the last spot can go to a catcher which I think is just

Does 1986 Eichhorn count for a closer season? I'd consider that the greatest reliever season regardless.

Homer stance: John Hillers 73 and 74 seasons stand out. Won 27 games total, while starting ZERO games and leading the league in saves in 73.

But if availability is truly the best attribute, Mike Marshall’s 1974 season is in a class by itself.

I went Ott/Bench/Kershaw. Wasn't easy leaving Yaz/Clemente/Seaver off

Forgot about '73 Hiller. I might give the edge to him

Did you guys see the home run Ohtani hit today?

This is opposite field:

Dude is one of the best to ever lace em up. We're not looking back on this guy's career. We're experiencing it in the present. I keep saying he's Ted Williams in 1947 or Barry Bonds in 1993. He may never have their career level but the talent is right there...on both sides of the ball so to speak

Since we're closing this out soon I have given second looks to some guys. Mel Ott is really impressive, bold numbers all over but no one MVP level season. Like a poor man's Hank Aaron

And for the hell of it, last spot and all, here's a list (off the top of my head) that all can make a reasonable case for 30:

Ott, Kershaw, Berra, Bench, Alexander, LaJoie, Morgan, Trout, Ohtani, Collins, Brett, Campanella, Clemente, Matthews, Ripken, Seaver...

It's a good time to stop how can you parse the different arguments LOL

Final Ohtani comment...you know how we give a boost to players like Williams and DiMaggio and Mays for missing prime years to war? We assume more good production those years, why wouldn't they be it's great players in their prime, right?

How is that so different from giving Ohtani a boost and assuming good production in prime years he will play the next 5 years at least?

Not sure on the nominees here, but 2016 Zack Britton has to be near the top. 67 innings pitched and only 4(!) earned runs allowed.

Add: 2020 Devin Williams has too small of a sample size(27 innings) but only allowed 1 earned run. That’s good enough for a 0.33ERA.

Giving extra points for years not played is not something “we” do. It is something “you” do.

Otherwise Taveras and Fernandez would be in the discussion.
