I went with a pick that @calsnowskier isn't going to like - Cy Young. The dude is a legend. He was an above average pitcher in his rookie year (age 23) and an above average pitcher at age 43. For me, he was so dominant that he was way above average for a pitcher in his prime when offense wasn't as robust as it is now. I'm not saying he was good when pitchers looked good. I'm saying he was way better than all the other pitchers during his time.
Pfft...dude never won a Cy Young in his life, how good could he have been?

and i can see why a Giants fan would start a thread like this....
You are welcome to start a poll for the greatest World Series’ ever.

As vaunted as the Yankees are, the Giants have the best alumni in all of baseball (at the top, at least; the Yanks are probably deeper). I didn’t even list Vaughn or Mathewson, and both probably belong (Vaughn is probably a stretch, but he was a beast)

Cy Young? He never even won the Cy Young award :D

My favorite stat is the 827 career decisions. Who is even second? You have to be damn good to lose 316 games. And how about 749 career complete games? Second all time had 639. Active leader has 26...26!!!!!

I like the idea, might have made it 2 votes, one for pitchers one for position players though...
Yes, but then you have guys like Ruth and Ohtani that break that distinction (and Sandoval, of course).

LOL... just playing.... Yankees are definitely deeper even in the top 10...

But cant ignore Mays and Bonds being top 5 in every serious ranking...

But ruth is generally ranked #1 in most pollls.... so not sure if i can agree with your statement...

also the giants dont have much behind those 2....

Ott and Mathewson are both probably top 40 players (though both played so long ago, they fall off lists due to recency bias (legit or not).

not even the best fictional baseball player...

Steve Nebraska wins that title...
Nick Lowry is such an amazing fictional player, even REAL players are awed by his mastery and other fictional players don’t even mention his name out of fear.

Ruth often hit more homeruns than entire teams over the course a season.

Beyond baseball, I'm not sure anyone has dominated a sport more than Ruth dominated his. At least not a team sport.

and yankees are cheap because they have had a lot of HOFer play for them for a season or 2 as they have always been a playoff contending team...

If we include the “one-year-players”, the Giants have the most HOFers of anyone.

But I have never bragged about that. That, as you said, is cheap.

this is a fact, but it is also an over-rated fact... once Ruth showed baseball the HR was king, there were other players doing the same thing... Ruth was the best at it... but the overwhelming advantage is kind of overexaggerated...
