So, the Briere/Jones tandem will be graded on the last game of the season.

Losing guarantees us the 4th worst record (9.5% to get #1).
Winning could put us 7th (6.5% to get #1).

Fortunately, we win every tie breaker because I believe that is regulation wins.

4th worst record
#1 9.5%
2 9.5%
3 0.3%
4 15.4%
5 44.6%
6 20.8%

7th worst record
#1 6.5%
2 6.5%
3 0.2%
4
5
6
7 44.4%
8 36.5%
9 5.6%
And the game is at Buffalo, who are 1 of the 3 teams that would jump us in the draft order if we manage to fumble this and win. Big difference between 4th and 7th in the odds, really. It's because there aren't any prospects beyond that 4th pick that are projected to be definite top line players.

So, we have to lose this game in regulation. Btw, 21 regulation wins on the season is pathetic. We should be 3rd in the odds based off that number alone. Only Chicago and San Jose did worse.

Meanwhile, there is drama in the eastern conference tonight. Montreal has to get at least a point on home ice against Carolina or Columbus can steal the final playoff spot from them tomorrow night with a regulation win against the Islanders. Carolina is the better team, but they don't have much to play for. Hopefully it's a competitive game and the Habs lose out.

What a stupid year of hockey.

Play as hard as you can with a talent lacking team just so in the end the other teams can remain more talented than us.

I was excited to watch Michkov. I wanted to see some development from other young guys. But I'm just a fan and the front office is supposed to be way smarter. They weren't.

Looks like Danny B is better at trades than he is during draft day so far:

Frost 31 games 12 points minus 6....... 2.1 millions RFA next year
Farabee 30 games 6 points minus 5 ....... 5 million 3 more years

Peltier 24 games 8 points minus 2 ....... 800K

Yep. Big one tonight. Even more importantly than the odds of moving up IMO, is the odds of moving down.

4th best odds has a 45% chance of picking 5th and a 20% chance to pick 6th but that's the worst case.
7th best odds has a 36% chance of picking 8th and a 6% chance to pick 9th.

Seems like Schaefer is in a tier somewhat to himself. Misa, Hagens, Martone, Desnoyers, and Frondell seem to be the next group that are supposed to be top of the lineup guys. Aka, there's 6 of them. 7th, or worse, you fall out of that top group. Still might be able to get a quality guy out of O'Brien, McQueen, Eklund, or Mrtka. But at least the way most people seem to write about them, they're good support guys, not the guys driving the bus.

Would love it if they were in a position to get Misa or Hagens, but even with an L tonight I think they'd need lottery luck. So I'm hoping for Frondell at the moment. If they slip out of that first group, O'Brien has been a fast riser. I'm out on McQueen now, too much injury concern.

Aitcheson and Brzustewicz have my attention for the Avs/Oilers picks if they're available when those picks slot in (go Kings/Stars).

I have a feeling we will lose tonight and get some lottery luck so its Hagens or bust for me. I think we may even be able to get him with the 4th pick if we get lucky as well.

If we can pick at a low spot I think we could wheel and deal and get a good pick. We have some extra pieces we should use them.

Why would you trade Laughton just to use the extra pick to get back to 2-4 when you could just lose instead? Makes no sense.

Hagens over Misa for you? Might be the first time in our 15 years posting together where I like the bigger guy better

As much as I would love to pick 1st or 2nd overall, even if we just lose this game in regulation and end up picking 4th overall, we can take Frondell or Hagens at that spot and then possibly trade up to get someone else we may covet in the top 20. We are guaranteed that a top center is still on the board at 4. Then, we have a lot of other picks to potentially move around and get who we want.
