Maybe this is the Flyers updated version of the 10-game losing streak?!
At least we've finally figured out how to tank properly. Now I'm wondering for how long we'll continue to give up a touchdown and an extra point worth of goals.

Let's see if we can beat the supposed "easy" teams on our schedule. Montreal on home ice is a game that we could theoretically win...Lol

Im probably being to harsh in my overall team assessment at this point, but it's honestly been hard to decipher this team not caring and tanking, to are they really trying, sometimes it's hard to tell.
Yes and I would say no, probably only a few players look like they are fully engaged right now. Guys like Konecny, Couturier, Poehling and Seeler. That's pretty much the remaining veterans on the team. We're constantly looking for more out of a guy like Tippett and that's fair. He's 26, has 338 games of Nhl experience and a nice, big contract worth about $50 million. It's time to put your big boy pants on and earn that money. He may need more help around him though to reach his full potential. The dude occasionally looks like he's a 40 goal scorer.

We should be expecting more out of guys like Foerster, Brink, York and Drysdale next season. It's really difficult though when to decide that one of these guys just isn't going to make it in the Nhl or doesn't fit into our long term plans. They're all very young still.

We unloaded Frost and Farabee at 25, so perhaps these youngsters that are 23-24 have another season or two to prove that they belong.

Tippett is another one who has flashes but can't string it together for more than a few games. Lack of talent around him maybe, but He wasn't thriving before he came here either.

I think that's just what you get with a 2nd/3rd line scorer. They're streaky and hopefully they chip in at the right times or you find a line combo that really works for a stretch.

It's a bummer that he's not more than that, but if he can be a reliable 25-30 goal scorer year in and year out that'll be worth the $6.2M cap hit, especially with the cap going up. He'll probably be a little short of that this year, but he'll still probably be in the 20-25 range and the Flyers have barely scrapped together 2C caliber play from any of their centers this season.

He's probably capable of more (30+), but for him to be at 19 now and ice cold with just 9 games remaining is pretty disappointing, especially when he's coming off seasons of 28 and 27 goals scored. That said, we're not really utilizing him right at the moment and perhaps it's on purpose. Wtf is he doing on the 3rd line and the 2nd power play unit!? We don't have enough talent for him not to make the top unit, that's for damn sure!!

It's also pretty wild that we have only 26 power play goals on the season and Tippett has zero...

I wish I could find/post the link but Tippett was asked about the departing players the other day and his answer DROVE ME INSANE. Seriously what is wrong with this teams mentality? This is PROFESSIONAL hockey, you can't just mope around because your friends aren't on the team anymore. You know what would be fun for me and every other fan???? To have a job playing a sport with my friends and hang out every day of the week. But guess what, that isn't life, we all see our friends a couple times a month, I ain't crying about it. I am so tired of this childish mentality these guys are in their mid 20's now. WTF are we even talking about!

Also Torts gone, not surprised at all after the presser where he said he wasn't interested in this anymore. I think I wanted him to stay to just continue the tank job.

The thing I hated about Torts the most is he doesn't realize the game is evolving faster every year. All that old school mentality helps with accountability but, in doing so he was definitely not utilizing what offensive talent we have. Coaches don't put players like ovechkin, Crosby etc on the ice for their defensive prowess, thier offensive generating players and are exactly used in that way. You've got to give players such as Michkov, TK etc the green light to make plays.

This is a bit surprising. You fire the head coach with 9 games left? Lol Should've let him go when we lost 7 of 8 in late January and early February, which was pretty much the beginning of the end of our season. Or, we started the season 1-5-1. That would've been a good time to get it over with.

Well, this offseason should be really interesting. We need a new head coach, we have 7 picks in the first two rounds of the draft (all in the top 48), 4 RFA's to re-sign and around $27.5 million in cap space.

I'm expecting a bounce back 5-4 finish as the new coach inspires this lineup, including two wins over Buffalo.

Yeah, I'm just not really understanding the timing of this. The only remaining teams we would potentially want to beat are the NYI and NYR to possibly knock them both out of the playoffs. Otherwise, we might as well just finish the season 2-7 or 1-8 and grab the 3rd spot in the draft lottery.

There will always be talk of tanking, but one thing the NHL (and the other sports, for that matter) could do is offer amnesty for the lottery teams.

What if other than having the best odds, the worst team in the league gets $20M worth of amnesty to use to remove bad contracts and/or trade to other teams for assets.
The next worst team might get $15M and so on down the line.

While this might increase tanking, think about the wheeling and dealing that might happen not just for top teams to get cap relief, but for middle of the road teams to get cap relief.

If the Flyers could remove $8M of cap hit, would they use it on Couturier? Rid themselves of the Ryan Ellis contract? Trade it???

It will never happen, but it does open up a world of possibilities.

Well that's certainly surprising. I really thought he'd be back next year and then stay in the front office. Twitter really seems to think it stems from the "I'm not really interested in learning how to coach in this type of season" comments on Tuesday. I didn't listen to those comments, just caught the headlines, but seems like a pretty big over-reaction if they went from "likely front office guy moving forward" to "fired" over that. That's exactly the kind of heat of the moment response I'd expect from Torts. He's been a "this is a rebuild, be patient" guy the whole time. This must have been brewing more than at least I thought. Maybe he thought it would go faster? Or the Flyers don't like him being the overwhelming choice of "coaches players don't want to play for" in that player poll. But even that had to have been obvious to Jones/Briere when they hired him? Not exactly a secret that the majority of guys don't like him, even if he has a few that really love him.

Weird all around IMO. Not sad at all that he's gone, I hate the guy. But just seems like a weird pivot at a weird time. Wonder if they plan on being more aggressive this offseason than I thought, and felt they wouldn't be able to lure guys to Philly if Torts was the coach? Or alternatively, they didn't want Torts to have another season of what the last couple weeks have been, if they're not planning to make meaningful moves in the offseason.

We will see what Brian Shaw can do in 9 games but the last paragraph in this article is the key.

I don't expect much. We are essentially playing for next season which doesn't benefit us in winning a lot of games at the end. Still hoping for a younger coach but we'll see soon what we're working with.

Maybe someone (a stud coach) called Danny and said - I’d like to be part of your future, but others are already calling and I’m not sitting around and waiting for you.

Dude, I like how you butcher John's last name. Tortorella is his real last name and Purdue's version: Tortellini!! lol.
