Maybe this is the Flyers updated version of the 10-game losing streak?!
At least we've finally figured out how to tank properly. Now I'm wondering for how long we'll continue to give up a touchdown and an extra point worth of goals.Maybe this is the Flyers updated version of the 10-game losing streak?!
Yes and I would say no, probably only a few players look like they are fully engaged right now. Guys like Konecny, Couturier, Poehling and Seeler. That's pretty much the remaining veterans on the team. We're constantly looking for more out of a guy like Tippett and that's fair. He's 26, has 338 games of Nhl experience and a nice, big contract worth about $50 million. It's time to put your big boy pants on and earn that money. He may need more help around him though to reach his full potential. The dude occasionally looks like he's a 40 goal scorer.Im probably being to harsh in my overall team assessment at this point, but it's honestly been hard to decipher this team not caring and tanking, to are they really trying, sometimes it's hard to tell.
Tippett is another one who has flashes but can't string it together for more than a few games. Lack of talent around him maybe, but He wasn't thriving before he came here either.
He's probably capable of more (30+), but for him to be at 19 now and ice cold with just 9 games remaining is pretty disappointing, especially when he's coming off seasons of 28 and 27 goals scored. That said, we're not really utilizing him right at the moment and perhaps it's on purpose. Wtf is he doing on the 3rd line and the 2nd power play unit!? We don't have enough talent for him not to make the top unit, that's for damn sure!!I think that's just what you get with a 2nd/3rd line scorer. They're streaky and hopefully they chip in at the right times or you find a line combo that really works for a stretch.
It's a bummer that he's not more than that, but if he can be a reliable 25-30 goal scorer year in and year out that'll be worth the $6.2M cap hit, especially with the cap going up. He'll probably be a little short of that this year, but he'll still probably be in the 20-25 range and the Flyers have barely scrapped together 2C caliber play from any of their centers this season.
I wish I could find/post the link but Tippett was asked about the departing players the other day and his answer DROVE ME INSANE. Seriously what is wrong with this teams mentality? This is PROFESSIONAL hockey, you can't just mope around because your friends aren't on the team anymore. You know what would be fun for me and every other fan???? To have a job playing a sport with my friends and hang out every day of the week. But guess what, that isn't life, we all see our friends a couple times a month, I ain't crying about it. I am so tired of this childish mentality these guys are in their mid 20's now. WTF are we even talking about! He's probably capable of more (30+), but for him to be at 19 now and ice cold with just 9 games remaining is pretty disappointing, especially when he's coming off seasons of 28 and 27 goals scored. It's also pretty wild that we have only 26 power play goals on the season and Tippett has zero...![]()
The thing I hated about Torts the most is he doesn't realize the game is evolving faster every year. All that old school mentality helps with accountability but, in doing so he was definitely not utilizing what offensive talent we have. Coaches don't put players like ovechkin, Crosby etc on the ice for their defensive prowess, thier offensive generating players and are exactly used in that way. You've got to give players such as Michkov, TK etc the green light to make plays.I wish I could find/post the link but Tippett was asked about the departing players the other day and his answer DROVE ME INSANE. Also Torts gone, not surprised at all after the presser where he said he wasn't interested in this anymore. I think I wanted him to stay to just continue the tank job.
Sounds like a good time to load up.Well, this offseason should be really interesting. We need a new head coach, we have 7 picks in the first two rounds of the draft (all in the top 48), 4 RFA's to re-sign and around $27.5 million in cap space.
I'm expecting a bounce back 5-4 finish as the new coach inspires this lineup, including two wins over Buffalo. This is a bit surprising. You fire the head coach with 9 games left? Lol Should've let him go when we lost 7 of 8 in late January and early February, which was pretty much the beginning of the end of our season. Or, we started the season 1-5-1. That would've been a good time to get it over with.
Yeah, I'm just not really understanding the timing of this. The only remaining teams we would potentially want to beat are the NYI and NYR to possibly knock them both out of the playoffs. Otherwise, we might as well just finish the season 2-7 or 1-8 and grab the 3rd spot in the draft lottery.I'm expecting a bounce back 5-4 finish as the new coach inspires this lineup, including two wins over Buffalo.

I don't expect much. We are essentially playing for next season which doesn't benefit us in winning a lot of games at the end. Still hoping for a younger coach but we'll see soon what we're working with.We will see what Brian Shaw can do in 9 games but the last paragraph in this article is the key.

Flyers fire Tortorella, eye next rebuilding steps
The Flyers have fired coach John Tortorella as the team spiraled toward missing the playoffs for the fifth straight season and one of the worst records in the Eastern Conference.www.espn.com
Maybe someone (a stud coach) called Danny and said - I’d like to be part of your future, but others are already calling and I’m not sitting around and waiting for you. This is a bit surprising.
