I agree. I really thought a 20 goal scorer was priority. McGinn went for $3.5 so I guess that was too much. This is the type of signing that makes me believe Konecny is on the team next year.
Any chance a trade is coming?

Would rather have white at less money. I'd also like to see the avg. ice time per game for white vs. weiss before I make comparisons based on stats.

Early on I brought up signing Martin and you said 2 million a year is way to much for a 4th liner. Now were locked in a 2.35 for 4 years for a 4th liner.

Oh ya, dont get me wrong, I don't like that contract one bit. If you're trying to win a cup, you're not going to win it with 2.35 mil on a 4th liner. If he can play some 3rd line minutes that takes some of the edge off.. but i really don't like the 4 year number. The Flyers should be flush with youngsters who can take 4th line minutes for $1 mil or less in 2-3 years when they're making runs at the cup. 4 years makes no sense to me. All i'm saying is you can stomach 1 mil or so extra $$ for those 4 years. I'd hate to Lucic or Ladd at $6 mil+ for 6 or 7 years. Those guys are NOT worth that money and they will be albatrosses. Weise is an overpayment, but it's not an albatross, a la Macdonald.

I'd be willing to spend more $$ for less term. I would have rather had him for 3 mil and 2 years. Little deals like that, to help you compete a little more while you wait for the young kids to come in. Then when they come in, the contracts for the stop gaps are up.

Unfortunately, like the Grabner deal at 1.65 for 2 years for the Rags. Wish the Flyers would have made that signing.

Anyone have numbers on Boyd Gordon? Player is an improvement on the 4th line, but contract...

Weiss is a better player and also a little younger. Both are 4th line players. Weiss played about 55 seconds more per game than White last year. Flyers over paid but White wanted more than they were willing to pay him. Weiss has had 29 and 27 points the last 2 years and White 12 and 16. If Weiss puts up close to 30 points with 4th line minutes, this will be a little easier to swallow.

Curious to see what White gets whenever he does actually sign on with someone. Seems odd that the Flyers went this route unless White is looking for 2 mil +

Also curious to see what Matt Martin comes down with for Las :)

Shaw got 6 years and 3.9 million, he has averaged 31 points per 82 games the last 2 years.

Helm got 5 years 3.85 million, he has averaged 32 points per 82 games the last 2 years.

Weise got 4 years and 2.35 million, he has averaged 30 points per 82 games the last 2 years.

Stealing from other boards, but that makes it look a little better on the Weise front. At least in comparison to other contracts signed this summer.

I hear that White is looking for 1.7 don't know how many years and Martin is looking for 4 years 12 million which is way to much

When I originally brought up the idea we all estimated Martin would get 2 to 2.5 million per

Another interesting point on Weise, he'll be exposed in the expansion draft next year and could be the guy that gets taken. It'll probably be between him and Cousins, so there's that.

I was a little surprised to see those numbers. No matter what Weiss does, we still need another goal scorer.

I think it's a great deal. Look at what Weise did in Montreal before he got traded. 14 goals and 26 points in 56 games and 14:21 ice time per game. That's absolutely not a 4th line player. He could've been a 20+ goal scorer at that pace for 82 games.

Furthermore, that amount of minutes would've been top seven on our team among forwards, so think of him as an insurance policy on Read, but at a much better price.

I think Hexy knows what he's doing here. Watch him trade Read and these signings will look brilliant.

I sincerely hope I'm wrong and Hextall has found a gem and Wiese plays far beyond my expectations and we are all celebrating a long playoff run.

I just read White got a 1 yr - $1.0 mill deal. No way he was taking that from Flyers. Sounds like he panicked after Weiss signed.

Ya, kind of surprised to see White sign for 1 mil. I think weise is the better player, but he's probably not 200% better. Surprised, but also glad for the nhl, that Martin only got 2.5. That's a lot of dough for 19 points though still. I'll be curious to see what the former NYI 4th line looks like away from each other.

Happy the flyers didn't do anything crazy. Weise and Gordon make the team better than it was last year IMO. Not a huge difference, but definitely better. Neither contract will kill them in the future. That's the big thing to me.

The Boyd Gordon deal is only $950k for one season. We can certainly live with that for a faceoff man and penalty killer.
