Well, look at how Couturier has played since then as a third line center. If that's most of the payoff, then so be it. We will all take that, certainly. That's a great payoff, to me.

Couturier has 11 points and is a +13 in just 13 games of March. Those are Selke Trophy numbers easily if extrapolated across a whole season. He'd be top 30 in Nhl scoring probably too. That's higher than Voracek or Giroux right now.

I agree, it seems they have all picked up a step with him being added to the roster.

If its true that Couts is playing well only because Flipper is on the team with Couts 4.5 and Flippers 5 million per year we are now paying 9.5 million for him to play well.

We are like 1 game under .500 since the trade.

Dude, you seem a little tense today.....
maybe to much coffee???

Even with picking up a step, they weren't setting the NHL on fire in the first place....
So yea, even 1 game under .500 is a step up.

Was it a great acquisition, no. But it has added maybe a dash of pepper in the soup. :2cents:

I need to make it an Irish coffee. I believe we are playing better as of late is because we are finally playing with a sense of urgency being that if we dont we will be eliminated.

6-6-1 since the trade, but that's mostly due to our horrific special teams play and a huge amount of misfortune. The Boston game anyone!? That was probably two points in the bank, but we lost it off a fluke deflection via our own defender with 6 seconds remaining. That's a killer. Boston is up 6 on us. It would only be 3 if we win that one in OT.

I think it's really too late to say we still have a shot. We need Boston, Tampa and NYI to all lose 3-4 games in a row or something crazy to that effect.

Lol You're sort of saying Filppula is completely worthless in his own right, so I would have to disagree. And Couturier did this for an extended period last season too before he got injured. Who knows, we may have had a real shot against Washington in round one with him healthy. Or...with Filppula and Couturier...both healthy.

As far as the expansion draft goes, the only ones i'm worried about protecting (or have to protect) are:

Giroux
Filpula
Voracek
Simmonds
Couturier
Schenn

Ghost

Outside of that, i'm really not that concerned. Of the rest of the players, Gudas would be the next up, so that puts you in the 7F / 3D / 1G category. Neuvy as already discussed. Leaves 1F and 1D to pick. On D, Manning is really the only one to even think about unless they sign MDZ. Up front, assuming they will resign Leier and Laughton, you have those two, Weise, Read, and Raffl. To me, it's either Laughton or Raffl. I like Leier, but Laughton has a higher ceiling and Raffl has more current value. I'm hoping Weise keeps up his late run here and kind of expect Vegas to take him.

Laughton has played pretty well this season for the Phantoms.

I hope he can continue this because it benefits us all in the end but i have gotten duped

If Vegas takes Weiss off and his 4 year contract off our hands that would be ideal.

Yes he played well last season and then got hurt it would've been nice if he continued that strong play for the first 60 games of this season. If Couts can keep up this pace it benefits us all and that would be great. I've just seen too many times where he played well and then turned back into the Couts we saw three quarters of the season.

Looks like I'm going to win the fantasy league, one way or another...LOL

Still wish we had a lot more teams. Not enough competition. Even just 12 teams would've been a world of difference.

WTF?
No playoffs?
top 4 make it-4th in 4th last I checked
Was tough to catch up,and Mr.Stamkos got me a shitload of points- lol

The most frustrating part about all of this is perhaps that we're actually getting a lot of help from other teams and failing time and time again to take advantage of it.

Panthers, Islanders and Canes all lose last night. Tampa did win however.

Tonight, we would need to beat Ottawa at home, then have the Bruins, Canes and Panthers all lose. It's certainly possible, just not necessarily likely.

It's mostly Boston and Tampa standing in our way. We can still beat the Isles and Canes again later in regulation to pass or gain on them.

At this stage though, probably only winning out gets us in. That's 8 straight wins altogether. Even still, Tampa and Boston would both have to stay under 92 points. I think Tampa beats Boston again and makes it in.

Well first things first lets handle our own business and win tonight. Hope Couts plays well again and Schenn is not getting enough love as he has been playing well even longer. Mase keep up the good work.

Does anyone know if you can trade expansion draft protection slots? I ask because the Flyers only have 6 forwards who will clearly be protected. If they could get, say, a 2nd round pick for a slot I'd have to consider it. Has Weal done enough to warrant a slot?

This is an excellent question that i dont know the answer to. I have a different question about the expansion draft if anyone knows the answer you can answer both at the same time. Can we say communicate with Vegas and tell them if they take McDonald we will give them a future draft pick?
