Tampa and NYI both win last night in OT and SO. That hurts any slim chance we had of getting in.

We would virtually have to sweep this weekend against two teams vying for the Presidents' Trophy to even have a shot.

Yep not looking good but it's their own inconsistencies that are to blame. Is this on the coaches or the players for not showing up all the time?

Not sure this game was on either, They outplayed Columbus But Bob was on his A game, You can;t win without goals. Who knows maybe there is a lot of bad luck involved.

Refresh my memory on this BOB trade? Who did we get in return of this multiple Vezina Trophy winner? My stomach is killing me now thinking about this trade. Of course we never knew BOB was going to be this good.

He was traded for 3 draft picks... a second and forth in 2012 and a fourth the next year.

I read an article recently that said Bob wanted out of Philly because he was sick of the fans bullying him.....

Damn. I think most of us knew he was going to be good, but not this good. I wasn't aware he wanted out? Then again, a lot more pressure playing in Philly versus Columbus. He is a lock for the Vezina this season. Book it!

That's a new one for me? Either way we fucked the pooch big time with that trade, Bringing in Bryz was another Clarke win now move which was really strange considering Bob had a better season the year before. Can't say enough how stupid of a trade it was.

In his first season there, he showed the Flyers that he was a better option than Bryzgalov by winning the Vezina Trophy as the NHL's top goalie,

How was trading him even an option?

Even you said yourself, Flyers fans have no patients.....
They wanted results immediately from Bob, so I could see them getting on him and making him feel unwelcome.
Hell they Do it to players now. If they would of been a little patient with the guy......but this right now mentality is what keeps shooting us in the foot. Fortunately Hexy knows Rome wasn't built in a day and he's building the champions we deserve.it's just going to take some time.

On a side note, there was a rumor flying around that Hexy believes if Mass hits the free agent market it will leave him unnoticed in the expansion draft. Meaning one of two things.....they will leave Nuevy unprotected and resign Mase, or they will protect Nuevy and still be able to reading Mass because he will be unnoticed in free agency. But again this is only a rumor, not sure of the truth in it.

Either way, we will all have to wait and see what Hexy has up his sleeve with the expansion draft. I'm sure Hexy has a Hell of a lot of tricks up his sleeve, that's why he is where he is.

Clark and Homer fucked us for years. We are still suffering from dumb deals. I'm still at a loss about BOB. Goaltending has been our weakest link for years and we had him. Fuck me sideways this is the kind of shit that the Cleveland Browns do, not us.

Oh yea, I agree, but this was totally on mgmnt in my opinion, Clarke Believed he had a team to compete and didn't want to wait for Bob's development which was crazy reasoning, the kid had just won the fucking Vezina trophy as a rookie, how do you not have patience there lol.Not sure what more you would want to see out of your first year goalie. Either way it was a stupid trade, if fans were truly that bad to the kid after his rookie year then we didn't deserve him.

Yep and now here we are still looking for a solid netminder. Hope one of our kids pan out but unfortunately it make take a couple of years to find out.

The Bob/Bryz situation was the result of Lavvy not knowing how to handle goaltenders and Snider not liking the team always being a laughing stock in goal. The problem when your owner was a super fan and had the power to make the crazy moves happen, they happen.

Had Homer not caved to Lavvy wanting Leighton back in the NHL the train wreck in goal in the playoffs would not have happened.

The Flyers organizational impatience and the fans being on board with that philosophy, THAT is why Bob was unhappy and wanted to be moved...and how the Flyers ended up STILL in need of a real long term goaltender.

OK......

I got to thinking about the goalie situation and here is what I have come up with.....
Maybe, just maybe the Flyers bring up Stolarz at the end of the season and protect him and leave Nuevy unprotected. In doing so leave Mase out on the market, where he wont get attention of for the draft.
Or maybe they just leave Stolarz down and still leave Nuevy unprotected.....

I don't know....any thoughts????
I can't see why the F/O hasn't tossed Mase a bone, yet they are using him as the work-horse the last bit of the season. IMO Nuevy, who is dead last as far as goalies, could use the work.

 I thought when I started this I had a good thought in mind, but the more I thought of it the more I was like.....

Hextall has said he will protect Stolarz. And you have to expose a goalie in the draft, so they had to sign someone or claim someone with term off of waivers (Zatkoff was a candidate a few weeks ago). The Flyers opted to sign Neuvirth, meaning they will expose him.

The theory floating around is that by protecting Stolarz, exposing Neuvirth, and waiting to resign Mason, there's a good chance the expansion draft won't effect their goaltending situation. Neuvirth likely won't be taken, and Mason can be resigned in free agency, if they choose to. They could also go another route and sign a different UFA goalie instead and have Neuvy be the backup.

All of that is fine. I think it's a good plan. My question is, why did they sign Neuvy for 2 years instead of 1? And why didn't they claim Zatkoff to fill the exposure requirement? They must REALLY like Neuvy as the backup goalie.

I understand what you are saying, but if Stolarz is still with the Phantoms he wouldn't need protecting...if I am understanding this correctly. The whole thing states nothing about minor league affiliates being included in the draft.

I don't know the specific rule, but he would be exposed (or protected). I think anyone that is past their entry level contract (ELC), has to to be protected or exposed. Doesn't matter where they're actually playing. Guys like Colin Macdonald, Andy Miele, and TJ Brennan will technically be exposed too, even though there's no chance LV takes them. Fortunately, Hagg, Sanheim, Morin, Provorov, and Konecny are all on ELC's so they are ineligible to be taken. If the draft happened in a year or two, the Flyers would have been screwed.
