From Bill Meltzer:
DEL ZOTTO ARBITRATION DATE SET
The National Hockey League Players Association announced the dates for all upcoming arbitration hearings for NHL players. Barring a negotiated settlement beforehand, Flyer defenseman Michael Del Zotto case will be heard in Toronto on July 21. The ruling must be made within 48 hours of the conclusion of the hearing.
Under NHL rules, because the arbitration filing was made by the player, the Flyers do not have to accept the ruling if the arbitrator rules in favor of Del Zotto and awards a salary above $3,799,887 for the 2015-16 season. In that case, Del Zotto would become an unrestricted free agent.
Most arbitration rulings result in one-year contracts but two-year awards are possible.
Throughout the negotiations with Del Zotto, who is represented by Newport Sports Management, Flyers general manager Ron Hextall has repeatedly characterized the talks as amicable and said that he expects a deal to get done.
