Thank you. I should get way more responses like this. It may be the first of it's kind however. :laugh3:

haha, i try not to argue stupid opinions of mine, so when it's proven that it's a bad opinion, i usually try to abandon it :suds:

It's not entirely the fault of Emery, even though his stats are far worse. I'd be willing to bet that we give Mason way more goal support, which in turn will help you stay comfy in net and stop more pucks.

All you need to see is this stat:

Emery: 8-10-1

Mason: 30-16-6

One guy is winning often and the other is not. We need to lean on Mason when it is not a back to back situation. He can handle the load.

Maybe we shouldve tried to get Bryz back at the deadline to back up Mase :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:

I mean, it sounds crazy, but I could argue that Bryz has been better with Edmonton than Emery with us. The save percentage is .908 to .901.

The Oilers have given up 35 more goals than us, so this should not be the case.

poor emery.. he gets so much hate on here :(

i've been content with either guy all year. emery has let in a few softies, mason has let in a few softies, but IMO, in probably the 60-65 games i've watched this year, at least 95% of the goals allowed were either bad plays by the defense, or good plays by the opponent.

obviously i'd take mase over emery, but i think emery has done an admirable job backing up this year.

I'm a stats guy. I can't ignore the numbers, especially a wide gap in numbers across an entire season. I'm giving Emery a slight pass since our boys just simply seem to play better in front of Mason. Regardless, if they play better in front of Mason, I'm going to start Mason as often as I humanly can. We need the points and can't afford a potential lull in play every time Emery starts.

This is why I'd ride Mase from here on out except for Buffalo and Carolina.

Just my 2 cents, but I see Emery and Mason as very different goalies. Emery at this stage of his career relies more on sound positioning to compensate for declining athleticism. This means that if the team D is solid in front of him and quality scoring chances are kept to a minimum, he's capable of posting great stats. With a poor D in front of him, he no longer has the skill set to overcome it and his stats suffer accordingly. Mason is somewhat towards the opposite end of the spectrum. He relies more on his athleticism to cover his sometimes spotty positioning. With a weak D, he still capable of using his athleticism to make game changing saves and, when he's "on", is capable of being dominate. However, his still developing positioning can lead to games and stretches of games when he's "off" and can look bad as a result, regardless of the quality of the D in front of him. In other words he's less consistent, with Emery's stats being more directly reflective of the quality of the D in front of him.

Id take Emery over Bryz any day even if his numbers are slightly better because i know that Emery actually makes saves and when Bryz makes a save the puck just hits him and he is credited for a save.

I thought that's how it worked for all goalies... :L

Either way, with both Emery and Mase, our goaltending is light years ahead of what it used to be for as long as we went without good to great goaltending.
