personally i'd take tavares over giroux.. i think he's the better player. if giroux's defensive game hadn't dropped off big time this season, i'd take him, but he's been less than stellar defensively this season. offensively he's been great lately though.

canada is so stacked. its not even fair that they can consider not including players of giroux/tavares caliber. they'd be the top two Cs on team USA, easily.

Canada should be allowed to enter 2 teams into the tournament. I also hope gee doesnt make it so he can rest his wrist but hey who knows worse things could happen to our team than gee making team Canada.

I want to say I'd take G over T due to his greater level of competitive Nhl experience and based on how scorching hot he is at the moment, but it's a virtual toss up and I'd like to think Team Canada would still include both of them in their mix of 14 forwards. I mean, I don't think I'd take Thornton, Kunitz, Couture, Nash, Staal or even St. Louis over either of them. When you get to guys like Duchene, Hall, Seguin and Benn among others, it gets extremely difficult for me to pick and choose.

Marty St. Louis is a lock, imo

Agreed. I think it's outrageous that kunitz is even mentioned, but I think he's a lock too. There probably isn't another athlete in the World that has thrived more of playing with someone than him. Maybe dupuis, but that's it.

I'd take benn over G too given the strength of Canada up the middle. The rest I'd say are a toss up. G is better than Thornton, but they may opt for experience. Same with staal.

Take that Torts hahahahahah!!!!

That's one guy that is EASY to hate. You can't show him on air during a game for more than 10-15 seconds at a time before reading his lips say "FUCK!!"

One point out of a tie for second place in the division and very nearly ahead of both wild card spots too. I like the cushion we have on the teams behind as as well with a game in hand and two points on both the NYR and NJD. Then Carolina and Columbus are in danger of falling off the map entirely.

How does holding patient and not blowing this team up look right now? I personally think we're on our way to comfortably making the playoffs whether we make a trade or not. And nobody is going to want to play us once we get there either. We have the size and physicality at forward and on defense to really grind the hell out of all comers across a seven game series. A hot goalie never hurts either and Mason could be just that.

Stat of the Day

Philadelphia Flyer Offense:

Through 15 games: 1.47 goals per game

Last 25 games: 3.32 goals per game

The horrid start offensively drags our overall goals per game down to 2.62, which is good for only 18th in the Nhl. However, if you eliminate that slump (as our boys clearly have), only Chicago and St. Louis are scoring more often than us this season. Not even the Ducks, Sharks or Pens are operating better than 3.32 goals per game and nobody else is even close.

I appreciate that some of you have lower expectations and that's ok, but my goal is to win a Stanley Cup, not limp into the playoffs on the back of a very weak division. It's nice to see the Flyers playing a little better, but a Cup contender they are not, nor will they be in the next couple of years without fixing some key holes. Sorry.

Im to lazy to look this up but i believe if you break down the offensive output of our D in the first 15 as compared to the next 25 i believe that will be the difference of the 2 goals per game.

This will help us add to the post count here: Playing GM what holes do we need filled and how do we fill them?

How the U.S. hockey team bound for the Sochi Olympics was named - ESPN

that article is really good.. shocker coming from burnside.. kevin allen at USA today wrote similar one

really explains why they left ryan off.. same w/ yandle.. basically said the way the lineup was coming together, neither of them would be used where they would be most effective.. ryan wouldn't have been on the top 6 or on the first PP, so he wouldn't really be in a goal scoring role and he's mostly useless outside of that role.. and yandle would've been the 7th dman and the coaches wanted someone more well rounded in case someone got hurt.. again, they weren't going to use him on the PP because pavelski (i think) was going to play on the point for the PP so they didn't need a PP specialist (yandle)

hope you have like a half hour to kill though if you want to read it, it's really long.

Do you think Canada gives a flying fuck that they're going to have three first liners playing fourth line? Absolutely not, because in tournaments you need all the skill you can get - it's easier to teach skilled players how to play specific roles, than it is to teach role players how to score - skill can't be taught

I'm tired of Team USA's stupid thinking for how to make a roster - Bobby Ryan, Kyle Okposo and Keith Yandle should have made it over Blake Wheeler, Max Pacioretty and Cam Fowler - there's no way on earth you can tell me those last three are better than the first three, I'd bet my house on that

David Poile is overrated - he's never gotten a good scorer for that Preds team, he shouldn't be the GM for an Olympic team - he's got too many bad ideas and makes this team too Predators-y - I can't believe a guy like Dean Lombardi who has a Cup, isn't the GM while David Poile, a guy who has never gotten past the second round of the playoffs, is the GM - makes no sense - Dean Lombardi is the best there is, imo - what he's done for the Kings organization to make them champions and have them in major contention every year shouldn't make this a debate for who the GM should be on Team USA

Team USA is going to get shellacked with this team
