Gotta ask the followup, what did she do wrong, given that she was a passive participant, and had no say in what was going on?
Not necessarily wrong, just a few things that I would've expected someone with her character's level of training to do differently. I think she'd have been smoother once she saw Ted had the wristband. And in the highway scene, she did what she was told not to do. Eh, little things.

Overall, it was a good show. The pacing didn't really bother me and I actually like the number of scenes that lacked dialogue. Still, i think it could've been better. The 2nd half of the show was better than the first half--maybe it's more Del Toro. Can't wait to see what he does in the new Star Wars movie.

That was one of the things I thought that made Villenueve's direction superb. All the characters in the movie were TOTALLY human, and thus mistake-prone. Which added a bunch to the tension.
I mean, I figured that since she was the POV character for the first 2/3rds, Blunt's character was probably going to live, but I was never certain of that either. From start to finish, there's this building sense of dread, because they make you think that some/all of our band of 'heroes,' are going to buy the farm.

Mistakes of judgment abound however. The Sicarios in the highway scene are all monumentally foolish given the guys they're up against, and how outgunned they are. But they've been given orders, so they carry them out. The writer even has one of the soldiers articulate that (Jeffrey Donovan?) saying, 'Do you WANT to die?'

But even the soldiers can't react how THEY want to. The ROI is 'we can only engage once engaged.' So they can't get out of their cars until the siccarios do first.

The line is so quick, I'd forgotten about it, but Blunt's character is told to 'get out of the car.' So she DOES not follow orders, ironically though, that probably saves her life, since it's only in the mirror/glass that she sees the black clad (cop?).

While you assholes were watching the Cubs battle the Dodgers, I watched Carlito's Way: 4/5 stars. Very good movie with a
very sad ending. I figured Carlito had to go, but I kept wishing he would survive the shooting for Gale. By the way, great job Pacino and whoever the actress was. This was the first crime drama film where I actually enjoyed the love plot.
By the way, Sean Penn's character had to be the sleaziest, grimiest asshole in the history of sleazy, grimy assholes. I loved the train station shootout (De Palma always does a great job with those).

Oh, and I WATCHED IT ALL IN ONE SITTING (basically, anyway):D

Woke up and watched Deer Hunter 7 o'clock this morning. Wasn't depressing enough. I'll watch Hamburger Hill on Sunday. That ought to do it.

It has been over 3 years since I have given a movie 5/5 stars, but here goes. Bom de bom bom bom bon- The King of Comedy: 5/5 stars. I can't believe how much I loved this movie. In-depth movie review coming later on my thread.

Taxi Driver: 3.5/5 stars. Movie review might be forthcoming. If not, I'll post more on why I liked it, but not as much as most people.

From my DVD collection:

The Wind and the Lion

The Man Who Would Be King

Soft spot for both of these. First saw them at a drive-in double bill in the summer 1975??

Connery is great in both.

Take a look at my two NFL avatars and think about it...

Things are coming up roses....

Ornery old smart ass.

Me too. The Raiders are looking like a playoff team and the Lakers won last night, totally unexpected. I just expected them to cover the 6.5 points and go over 223 combined points.

The Bruins suck but the Rams have shown glimpses of being a solid team and they're back home in Los Angeles.

When I'm picking winners Raiders games, where they play is all important. At home they aren't quite as good for some reason. Deadly on the road though it seems.

I'm about 45 minutes into Sicario and it's awful especially after getting done with Narcos. Might be the first movie I don't finish in a long time.

It's a movie trying to exist soley on secret information and gotcha moments.

A forgotten classic. I think that movie helped restart Connery's career after Bond.

Have no idea what you mean here.
Main character is clueless for the entire time I watched the movie. You're then very slowly given information as the movie progresses.

Narcos in contrast is done in goodfellas style and moves much quicker. In Sicario, the main character is isolated like she is on the moon.

The movie then tries to drop you into action scenes where anything could happen. Meh. The movie wasn't working for me at all. Violence in a movie isn't engaging without context, character development and dialogue. It's why Tarantino movies work.

Agreed. But I also love Wind and the Lion even if it has sappy moments. The scene where he appears as a silhouette on a hilltop before galloping down and beheading several bad guys is great visual stuff.
