For any DirecTV people, free HBO and Cinemax this weekend. Have about 13 movies set to record over the next few days

I watched The Shallows last night.
My biggest impression was Blake Lively is ruining her skin, she needs to stay out of the sun.
Other than that, it has a very mundane plot, a waste of her talent and my time.
I'll give it 3 out of 10.

I actually got to see the Revenant not too long ago. Really well shot and amazing cinematography. Tom Hardy did a great job even though his voice was ridiculous. 8.5/10 IMO.

Also saw Brooklyn. The main actress is very good and hot but I just can't get into Romance movies unless it has some other elements that make it watchable ala Grosse Point Blank. I still think it's a solid 7/10.

Tom Hardy won me over with his work in Child 44. He should have at least been nominated for an Oscar for that role.

7/10. Nothing wrong with it, but I probably wouldn't choose to watch it again. BTW, Pratt stuck out like a sore thumb. He was playing himself.

Chris Pratt has been doing super safe movies after Lego and Guardians.

Magnificent 7 on its surface reminds me of Jurassic Park. You know exactly whats going to happen in the movie before you see it and the movie only exists to make money.

He is doing some sort of space Titanic around Christmas that does all of the normal space isolation stuff except with romance.

A waste of a lead character talent imo.

He's becoming the white Will Smith.

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber on Fleet Street: 3.5/5 stars. I'll be the first to say that I think Johnny Depp can be a little overrated, but he really performed in this movie. Going into this musical with him, I had traumatic flashbacks of Russell Crowe singing mercilessly on end in the film adaptation to Les Miserables, but I can honestly say that I never knew Depp had such a booming, yet ironically, soft, smoothing, and (if I were gay- which I'm not) seductive voice. He was awesome. This is the performance I would have liked to seen in From Hell. It was like Dexter, but in 1880's London.

The first half of the movie flirted with 5 star territory, but it kind of fell of in the end. I would have liked to seen more Alan Rickman (you can never have too much Alan Rickman), but oh well. For free on Netflix, I'd certainly recommend to get you into the Halloween mood (if these murderous clowns aren't doing the trick for you).
I actually think Johnny Depp is going to end his career underrated. I suspect that some of his movies, especially some of the ones from the past 5 years, are just going to be seen as awful but Im not sure there were actors that could save some of the trashy movies that he was in. A good example was Transcendence - a movie made about 20 years too late to catch anyones interest and was poorly made to boot.

Sweeney Todd is a niche movie. My gf loves the movie but she likes dark musicals. I think its well made and generally agree with your analysis.

Just saw Don't Breath......I liked it a lot, just part of the actions of the home owner were hard to believe, how he did them.

I saw both. The scene with the bear was intense to say the least.

I liked Brooklyn too. I thought it was very sweet. Liked the Italian guy as well. A simple but very sincere character.

Word. I like Depp enough, what with legendary performances in Donnie Brasco and Public Enemies (very, very underrated movie. 4/5 from me even though a relatively low score on RT)

Finally got Suicide Squad at my theater. Worth the wait. Can't wait to see more of Leto's Joker. A small taste, but I liked what I saw. And I think I might be starting to come around on Batfleck. Looking forward to the potentially Arkham Asylum inspired Bat-flick.

Good movie, made me have the feels for the bad guys. Minor quibble, they certainly reminded us enough that they were, in fact, the "bad guys." Other than that, two thumbs up.

Lastly, Margot Robbie is bangin'.

I watched A Bridge Too Far yesterday. It started off slow but once the war stuff started, it turned into a good movie. I'd rate it 3 out of 5 stars.

The Infiltrator: 3.5/5 stars. Not Cranston's best work, as he nowhere approaches the breaking of badness in his portrayal of a real life undercover cop, but an entertaining story none the less. Overall, the film was pretty consistent and even in its enjoyability. There were few dull moments, but there were also no bad-ass, that-was-fucking-awesome moments that you would expect in a Cranston/Leguizamo (Ozzy del Veccio in Bloodline) hookup. There was a very good panning shot that I really enjoyed right before the wedding. I just wished the director took more of a risk with the two great actors he had and tapped into a The Departed feel, but oh well. I would recommend it, as long as you don't expect a fusion of Breaking Bad and Narcos.

Saw Boondock Saints. Some of the worst acting and action scenes you'll see in any movie. I think thats the point? 2nd half more engaging than the first half but just sort of ends. A couple of good laughs. Don't care enough about the movie to look up if the entire movie is secretly about being gay but I wouldn't be shocked if that was the case. D+

Saw Clue for the first time in about 20 years. A fantastic cast and a fantastic idea for a movie and yet it kinda feels like wasted potential. Christopher Lloyd and forgettable should never ever happen but somehow it did. There were some cheap jokes thrown in here and there but by the time it gets going the movie works if only because Curry carries the movie on his back much like Depp carries many movies on his back. I feel like this is the type of movie that normally gets padded with musical numbers. I still think the way they did the ending was classic and saves the movie to a certain degree. B
