Captivity...........Thought it was a decent movie. 8 of 10.
Spy
One of McCarthy's better movies. Her and Statham together were hilarious.
Nope. I dislike most of her movies. The Heat wasn't bad, but I wouldn't watch it a second time. Her small role was good in Bridesmaids, but I her usual movies don't work for me. I think the other actors' roles in Spy balanced our her character--maybe that's why I liked it as opposed to her usual stuff. One of her better movies? I figure if you like this, you like most of her stuff. She plays the same loud, foul mouth annoying person. I only watched the movie for Statham. His over the top stories were hilarious.
Sicario: 3.5/5 stars. I begrudgingly give this movie 3.5 stars instead of 3, as most of it was Emily Blunt not looking hot and just crying. Del Toro was pretty good, but nothing remarkable as a silent hitman; his performance was just slightly better than that of Josh Brolin's. I enjoyed it mildly, particularly the dinner sequence, and the final tracking shot, but nothing great for an action movie with a 90% on RT and an all-star cast.

I liked it. It had a lot of unexpected twists in it, though Blunt made a couple of mistakes that would've been unlike her character (the traffic jam border scene in particular). It was actually better than I expected, but it could've been even better.
Well it's not like I gave it 1.5/5 stars. I enjoyed it. I was just expecting more from an action thriller about the Mexican cartel. And by more, I don't necessarily mean more action (there was actually a decent bit of action), but more character development. I mean Blunt is a great actress, and she was reduced to a stoic, whiny little girl. Why was she supposed to be upset about Del Toro's ambivalence to his allegiance? Seriously, she saw the damage the cartel could do, and yet she refused to sign the paper. Can't disagree more. One of the best action movies of the last five years. Del Toro was understated, as was the whole movie.
But after reading your disclosure last week, this movie isn't in your wheelhouse, because it's too slow.

The pacing was pretty bad too from my opinion
Statham was fine but overall I didn't think much of Spy. The only times I've thought McCarthy was funny was The Heat and her secondary role in Bridesmaids. One of her better movies? I figure if you like this, you like most of her stuff. She plays the same loud, foul mouth annoying person. I only watched the movie for Statham. His over the top stories were hilarious.
I got through about 40 minutes but just can never get myself to sit down and finish watching the rest of it.The Revenant. Long movie but it's really good.
I wrote a review of the film. Check it out. And yes, you are right on the stoic thing. I just meant that she lacked emotion, unless it was whining explicitly. She wasn't whiny at all imo. She wanted (tried) to keep her moral compass intact as a member of law enforcement.
Given what's going on in America right now, that shouldn't be seen as 'whiny' imo.
Stoic and whiny seem to be mutually exclusive btw.
