The last movie I watched was the documentary Electric Boogaloo about Cannon Films. Has anyone else seen this? It is at the same time fascinating and ridiculous. To think this is how some movies were being made in the 80's. Looking back now, it makes sense with how bad they were, but back then as a kid, many of these were REALLY cool movies lol...

Wow, I've never heard of this. Thanks for the post, gonna check it out. Wasn't that the name of a Linda Blair roller skate movie as well?

That it did.

I worked near Detroit for a short time in a new design center that was crammed in with an existing sales office. All the sales people had to drive 4 door American sedans to get the company subsidy, and, as they were all younger and full of piss and vinegar, they all drove SHOs. One was a very bright and funny gal who also swore like Dice Clay and (unfortunately) smoked...she loved the SHO, but needed a new clutch after 20kmiles and was probably on the way to another new one at 40k. Never drove with her, I'll bet it was quite an experience.

She intrigued the hell out of me. Pretty with a great bod, but about 5 years older than me and I had just hooked up with my wife to be after a few years of pursuit. Was a long distance relationship with the future wife and SHO gal still might have lured me away if not for the smoking thing...she told me she would never quit and I had told myself I would never have to deal with that crap again after having smoking parents. She also told me she had no interest in raising kids, and I was not prepared to write that off completely at that point.
(thinks wistfully about what could have been)

That was part of the title of Breakin' 2:Electric Boogaloo. Actually, it wasn't Linda Blair though, but did look like her. It was Lucinda Dickey. :suds:

The documentary is hilarious!!! when you see the way these guys were making movies and how they came up with the stories, those 80's movies make much more sense now...

Keanu - 7.5/10

Was it funny? Yes. But half the humor came from them yelling the n-word and making a lot of George Michael references.

Zootopia - 9.0/10

It was clever, well-thought-out, and funny. However, this was, hands down, the preachiest movie I can remember watching. It could get uncomfortable if you're white and go see this movie with a black friend.

I agree. Cute film, but plenty of racial undertones, for some odd reason?

Captain America: Civil War - 9.25/10

AKA, Avengers 2.5. This may be the best of the Marvel movies. Just a non-stop orgy of super heroes, old and new to the MCU, being brought in, one after another. It's got a good plot, decent humor, and GREAT action. There was a big revelation made in this one, and the ending was also satisfying. It was nearly 2.5 hours, but it moved quickly.

Steve Jobs. 8/10. Not bad at delving into the personal life of jobs. Also I felt Seth Rogen (who I didn't even know was in the movie) killed it. Rogen has become an actor that can play a variety of roles. He's becoming a true A-List actor.

Daredevil the Directors Cut. This was way better than I remember it being when I watched it when it first came out.

Finally saw The Revenant.

Pretty decent if a bit long.

I have a friend who last summer got between a momma grizzly and her cub and got mauled. He's a forestry engineer.

From what I've been told about his mauling, the one in the movie was very accurate. The initial charge of the momma is very fast and impossible to defend. And she literally barrels you over than starts with all the claws and teeth stuff.

My friend managed to kick her in the nose with cork boots and she went off for a while but came back to finish him off just like in the movie. All he could do was cover his head and hope. Eventually he got a real good kick into her face/nose and she corralled her cub and went away. But he could hear her out in the bush.

His partner was a 18 year old university student (summer job) and the kid was petrified trying to arrange rescue. The kid suffers PTSD to this day.

'This is it, I'm going to die,' thought man as mother grizzly attacked

I watched "Look Who's Back" (Er Ist Wieder Da) on Netflix, German language film about Hitler mysteriously reappearing in modern day Berlin. Low budget and maybe too Euro for some people, but I enjoyed it and it touched in thoughtful ways about the present mess in Europe.
The one thing that bugged me the whole time was that the guy playing Hitler was way too tall...see if you can catch the references to "Downfall".

Civil War

Great fight scenes. Nice comic-nods. Good SFX.

I am not ready to rate it higher than Dark Knight yet, but it is AT LEAST as good as Winter Soldier.

9/10

Its a much different movie than Dark Knight but both are really good imo.
The big thing about Dark Knight for me is the Joker and what he represents. Its this idea that society can just unravel. That morality is a weakness. Loyalty an illusion. Corrupt institutions will eventually doom us all.

Civil War gives off a completely different feel. The villain in the movie likely saves thousands of lives by killing the Winter Soldiers. The villain isnt too far off from Tony Stark/Bruce Wayne - a depressed man with a few skills who is slowly letting go of his family and life as he deletes the message off his phone. Tony Stark is a broken man going through a possible divorce, envious of Captain America but never actually wants to defeat him. Fittingly, he never really even sees Captain America as an equal as to the fact that he didn't even both to analyze his attack pattern and didn't hesitate to attack his friend in a 2-1 setting. 'You don't deserve that Shield. My dad made that' is something that is relatable anguish for someone who repeatedly goes down the wrong path and has all of the intellect and power to do whatever he wants yet can't overcome all of his issues and tragedy. All of the characters are stuck with some sort of motivation dilemma that binds all of us. Civil War isn't about societies just coming undone. Its about meritocracy, choice and inequality. Iron Man created. Captain America was created. Vision is brilliant but aloof to any idea of humanity much like Dr Manhattan.

In many ways Civil War is a better conventional action movie than Dark Knight but Dark Knight has Joker and thats all the Dark Knight really needs to be more compelling.

While I definitely was on "Team Cap", I think Tony was the real "good guy" in the movie. He was the one fighting for law and order. He was fighting for accountability. He displayed the more dynamic thought process.

By contrast, Cap wants to fight first, maybe talk later. He wants to be Judge Dredd, because he knows better than anyone else. The reason he does not scream "villain" is because he truly is a good guy and his intentions are pure. In reality, though, he is just another Winter Soldier himself. This is why he is unable to lift the hammer. His intentions are good, but he is too quick to fight.

Zemo can be viewed as the most altruistic good guy of the 3. Sure, his background is a member of a "kill squad", but what is the difference between that Seal Team 6? If he were an American soldier, he would not have the stigma attached to his background. Stark WAS the sole person responsible for Sokovia. HE created Ultron. He even went behind Cap's back to make him. EVERYTHING Ultron did sits squarely on Starks shoulders. So for Zemo to seek vengeance against Stark (and the Avengers in general) is completely righteous.

The shit the team takes for NY or the Wakandan city is completely unfounded, though. They were fighting to save the planet (NY) or prevent terrorists from acquiring WMD (Wakanda). They were not the aggressors in those events.

I don't think you're being terribly fair to Team Cap. Team Cap was right - the Winter Soldier was innocent. I think Team Cap would stop being the good guy if the Winter Soldier actually was an evil entity. Being egalitarian isn't what Captain America is all about. He has no problem doing the most virtuous thing against all odds. I agree with you about NY and the Wakandan City being political B.S. but that pretty much how politics works in real life. The U.N. plan was named after Sokovia IIRC and given the size of the legislation, it was probably already being proposed long before that incident.
